Tell Us survey feedback - PCs

Not enough PCs in silent areas. Would be very happy to use my own laptop in silent areas but there are no plug sockets (Level 3 along the window near psychology section). I hope the new library will have better infrastructure in this respect. The PC silent area on level 3 is ridiculously hot. Library PCs should have subject specific programs installed - NVivo for example. As the library is a 24 hour service, there should be suitable refreshment facilities, eg Kettle/microwave/toaster. Not everyone wants sugary stuff out of the machines. It would be good if first come/first served car parking was available for night time library use as I don't feel safe parking off campus and walking in at night.

We said: Thank you for raising your concerns. Silent study space is not silent with the clatter of keyboards. Even softtouch keyboard create some noise. Learning Resources has tried to meet the needs for silence and laptop/PC access with current provision. There are a few PC on levels 2 & 3 which may be booked and power points where laptops may be plugged in.
July 2016: When the new library opens in July 2016 there will be silent study rooms on each floor. In addition to the silent study rooms there are quiet ICT rooms. I would advise you to get into the habit of booking a PC for yourself in the Quiet ICT rooms on levels 4 and 5
Nvivo is on bookable student PCs and all level 1 PCs at Luton
There will be a cafe space on the ground floor in the new library for food and drink. Students own equipment may not be plugged in anywhere in Learning Resources. Parking is outside my remit so I am sorry I cannot advise on this except to say that here is no on Campus parking available.
