Ebooks on demand

I am trying to access several ebooks all to do with the writing of novels and and for every one being presented with this page:
I have used ebooks for nearly every assignment I have done to date and have never before had to request rental? I have always just read it online. Please could someone help me with this?

University of Bedfordshire is offering a new service to students to broaden the range of materials available for their assignments called "eBooks on demand"

How does it work?
On demand ebooks look like other ebooks, except that there are 'Request rental' and 'preview' buttons instead of 'Download' and 'Read online'. Preview will give you a five minute read of the book. Request rental will automatically trigger a one week rental of the book, paid for by Learning Resources. When three students have requested a rental of a book it is automatically bought (again, paid for by us).
Please request the rental by clicking the "Accept" button
There is a Just a Minute Video on the web page to introduce this new service too

Referencing

Please could you advise me on how to reference the following

The document you want to reference is an article published in a journal.  The referencing guidelines explains how to set-out a journal reference here:

As with a book you start with the author's surname and initial.  In this instance you have two authors - Cihak, D.F. & Ayres, K.M.

The publication year is in the header at the top of the page - (2010).

Then you type the article's title in single quotation marks -  'Comparing pictorial and video-modeling activity schedules during
transitions for students with autism spectrum disorders'.

The journal title comes next and this is in italics to distinguish it from the rest of the text, because anyone interested in reading more about your topic, would use that title to track down the source.  Journals are often give volume and sometimes issue numbers to pinpoint which edition in a particular publication run an item appeared in.  The header tells you that this item appeared in volume 4 between pages 763 and 771.  So, as there is no issue number in your example, these details would be set out like this.

Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders 4 (2010) 763–771

As you are reading an electronic copy of an article, you also need to include some extra details

  • Name of electronic journal supplier
  • [Online]
  • Available at:
  • URL of collection
  • (Accessed: date month year)
I'm not clear from the URL you supplied, which route you used to locate this article and therefore which electronic journal supplier you have used.  The URL does not look like you've used the University's links to this journal or gone through Science Direct remotely.  However, if you can't remember your route, just put 'Science Direct' as that is the main host site for Elsevier titles like this.  The point of including info like this in a reference is to help your readers to read your source materials, so SD is fine in this context.
Then you put '[Online].  Available at:' and paste in the persistent URL (ie stable) if you know what that is.  If you've not got a record of it, the URL from the address bar which you've pasted in your email will have to do.
And then finally in open curled brackets right 'Accessed:' and add in the date, month and year you looked at this website.  This is very important, especially without a persistent URL or digital object identifier (DOI), in case the portal you've quoted in your email times out.

Education Ejournal

I'm currently studying English and Education Studies and I was trying to access online journals, in particular the 'Race, Ethnicity & Education'.

However, I cannot access the particular journal section I want as it is asking me to log into this website - http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/carfax/13613324.html

Is there any log in details that are available so that I can use these journal

Unfortunately, this is not a journal the university purchases so you student username and password will not work for this Taylor and Francis title.  I appreciate this is frustrating.  The easiest way to check what is available from the University is to search using the DISCOVER tool (available here: http://lrweb.beds.ac.uk).  And use the 'Full Text' limit so all the items you retrieve will be immediately accessible.  There is masses on race/ethnicity + education topics on there.  Or you can check the availability of specific journals on the library catalogue (http://library.beds.ac.uk).

If you are a final year student or a post-graduate, and still want to look at a particular item in the Race, Ethnicity and Education, you can order it from our Document Supply service.  The forms are here: http://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/libraryservices/docsupplyThe item will then be emailed to you.  It usually has a very quick turnaround.

RefWorks

... got a problem while log-in to Reference work
The sign up account were show my account already exiting but unfortunately i can't log-in
could u provide me the log-in account and password please
i already tried to log-in with my user name and my password

You are using the correct login, which is your normal username and password. Could you try logging and clicking on the option to 'link to an existing account'? That way you should be able to login and have access to any references you may have saved before.

If that doesn't work, you may need to come into the LRC/library so we can have a look at what you are seeing.

IEEE Xplore

I am trying to access documents for an assignment that are contained in the IEEE Xplore database.

Within BREO I have followed the links to the IEEE site however my BREO username and password does not give me access.

Do I need alternative credentials to access this material? I am working from home and I am too far from the Luton complex to attend the library there.

Thanks for your enquiry. I need to untangle it a bit.
Did you go from BREO into the library catalogue or directly to IEEE Xplore?

You need to access electronic resources via the library catalogue or DISCOVER the University's new search option.

Using the catalogue you get to this page

Click on the "U" button and scroll down to the University of Bedfordshire link. Click on "University of Bedfordshire"

You then log on with your standard University log on details.

Please give this a try and get back to me if you have any problems

EBSCO and Athens

Hi there I am a current student at the University and I am unsure how to access EBSCO or athens. if you could get back to me and explain that would be great.

I would like to suggest that you make an appointment with your Academic Liaison Librarian to talk this through.

I think your Academic Liaison Librarian is Bill Mortimer
please contact him to make an appointment.

You access all electronic resources through the Library catalogue
library.beds.ac.uk

or DISCOVER

University of Bedfordshire does not use Athens authentication

Instead we have UK Access Management Federation

It will be easier to talk this through with a person rather than rely on emails so please contact Bill.
