Library PCs - saving work

I have found it really difficult to work out how to save my work on the computers.  It has caused me a lot of anxiety and wasted time.   It is not obvious how to use one drive - I am used to saving to folders.  It is extra stress when I just want to get on with my work. There don't seem to be any clear instructions?  Library staff helped me but it has caused me so much stress!

I am sorry you have found the transition to Cloud storage stressful The University is ensuring that each student has adequate storage for their study needs hence the change. One Drive is very straight forward to use once you get into the habit of logging in. There are a couple of videos you may find helpful

Social Work Resources

I'm a Social Work student and I've found that for all my unit there about 8 or so copies of the core text book in the library including some 'library only' copies. The only exception to this as the book ' the skilled helper' by Gerard Egan, of which there are only 2 copies displayed in the library catalogue and no library only copies. There is an electronic version, but I doubt I'm the only person on my course who dislikes reading off a screen. Some more copies of this text or a couple of library only copies would be greatly appreciated if possible.

Thank you for your comments. Your Academic Liaison Librarian has been in discussion with your academics and

  • additional copies are currently on order
  • looking into alternative titles to help ease the pressure on a few titles
There was an announcement on BREO last week (17.10.19) with this information.

You should be seeing these changes soon

Library catalogue screens

It would be useful if the library loans screen showed which books on a student's current borrowing list were not going to be renewed again (in advance of renewal date). i.e. to show as soon as a hold for that book is lodged on the system.

Thank you for your suggestion. The system already displays this information but you do need to log into your library account.
If a book has been requested by another customer the screen n you library account says HOLDS or has reached its 20 renewals the screen on you library account says REACHED RENEWALS LIMIT

Luton Library - cold

I'm a PhD student who frequently uses library for my research work. Whilst I'm proud to say that our university's library has amazing facilities and study areas. However, recently since weather has changed, it's very cold and seems like the heating is not being maintained according to the outside temperature. One feels like wearing heavy jackets and coats even inside the library and temperature seems very similar to outside. Could you please check this and ensure a comfortable working temperature to be
maintained in library.

Your support on this issue will be helpful for all students

Thank you for raising your concerns and I am sorry that you are finding parts of the library colder than you'd like. The library's management system is set for an ambient temperature of 19 - 23 degrees across the year. If you check the little cardboard thermometers around the library the temperature should fall between these two values if it doesn't please report it to staff on level 1 if it does fall within this range then please find a different floor to study in. We have no reported faults at the moment.
I would advise you that different part of the library are warmer than others so please vary your work station so you can find somewhere that is comfortable for you

Staff praise - ALLs

I would like to highly praise Keith in the Study Hub in the library.

I have not written an essay in over 10 years and was petrified of referencing! I went to see him and he helped me so much. I feel much more confident about my essay now and will be using the Study Hub much more as my course goes on! He was also very patient
with me as I asked lots of questions.

This kindness and compassion does not go unnoticed!

Thank you for your kind words. All the best in your academic journey
