DISCOVER

I am currently a 3rd year student who has not been able to access Discover for weeks.  I have tried everything to access Discover but coming up with an error message.

I had contacted the library about some books that were overdue and this was dealt with, however what I did not realise is that accessing Discover was linked to these overdue books.

This is a really important year for me, and although I do take responsibility for my overdue books, which now are renewed.  To prevent a student from accessing really important information is extreme, especially when they live miles away?

Look forward to your response.

Thank you for contacting me. I am sorry that you are experiencing problems with DISCOVER. I have checked your library account and it is not blocked in any way so that isn’t the problem.

Have you been asked to change your password? Are you using the most up to date password you have? You could change your password to see if that helps. Details on this web page

If this problem has been happening for weeks I would’ve expected you to ring your Campus library for assistance. Please don’t struggle give us a ring if this problem continues

Please try to access the resources you need again. If you experience any problems please screen shot the message you get. Send it to me telling me what you did.

Your library books become due on 1.2.18 so I would advise you to go online and renew your books on Thursday to avoid any fines

Luton Library catering

I think it would be a good idea to install a lunch area in the library downstairs with a microwave and a kettle (epecially that). I know students are not supposed to eat and drink in the library, and it is a mess due to most students not complying, but at least being able to make an instant coffee downstairs when spending the night would make a difference. Also, are there any hot water facilities anywhere. I cannot afford the coffee anymore, prices are going up...

Thank you for your valuable feedback which helps us improve our facilities and services.

We have reviewed your request for a microwave and kettle in the library and unfortunately at this time this is not going to be possible. The Library has a policy that does not allow food and hot drinks to be taken onto the upper floors.

We believe that while most students would abide by this there some students would think that the presence of a microwave and a kettle may not align with this policy and would take advantage of it. As such at this time we will not be installing either.

Please be assured that students feedback is taken seriously and we will review this decision again in due course.

We are investigating introducing vending machines into the library space to try to cater for students who are studying out of the hours, along with improvements to the cafe facility is open which will also enhance the food provision in the building. Please ask at the canteen for some hot water to make your own drinks.

Overdue books

I cannot seem to access discovery as it keeps coming up with 403 forbidden?

I have been passed your enquiry regarding overdue library books. You have a bill for £60 on your library account. This is the replacement cost of three items you have had on loan since October 2017

All were due back 12.12.17

Any book that is more than 6 weeks late is be billed at full replacement cost. Your library accounts are also blocked. Access to University LRCs/library account is blocked until the overdue items are returned or you have agreed to pay a replacement fee. Bills are waived on the return of the overdue items and the fine has been paid.

I cannot renew these books for you and I would advise you to bring them into any University Library/LRC to either return them or renew them. You will need to bring them to the staffed desk so please be sure to visit during staffed hours

Going forward I would strongly advise you to put a reminder on your phone to renew your books to avoid anything like this happening again.

Overdue books

I am unable to login to the library website to renew my items as  I didn’t do this in time. Is there anyway I can renew these items remotely as I live in Peterborough and I don’t start the second part of my course until February?

Many thanks for your enquiry regarding overdue library books. You have a bill for £111.49 on your library account. This is the replacement cost of two items you have had on loan since November 2017

Both are due back
Due back 21.11.17

Any book that is more than 6 weeks late will be billed at full replacement cost. Your library and network accounts will be blocked. Access to University LRCs/library and the network will be blocked until the overdue items are returned or you have agreed to pay a replacement fee. Bills are waived on the return of the overdue items and the fine has been paid.

Luton Library - vending

There is no provision of food overnight in the library. The library would really benefit from a microwave so we could warm up our own food or a vending machine.

Thank you for your valuable feedback which helps us improve our facilities and services.

Blocked account

I am unable to access discovery in breo and I need to have access to it as soon as possible as I have an assignment due next next.
Is it possible for me to pay for the book so I can access it and return it once I have found it. I’m living in between places and will not be going to my other place for a few days but really need to access discovery.

I understand that you contacted the Library Technical team regarding the fact that you cannot access DISCOVER at the moment.

Your library account has a replacement bill for a very overdue item and so your account has been blocked until the book is returned or paid for (if it is lost). Learning Resources and Service Excellence has a no refund policy so if you pay for the lost item and return it later you will not get your money back.

You borrowed “Outstanding teaching, learning and assessment : the handbook” on 13 November 2017. It was due back on 27.11.17

When the book was more than 5 weeks overdue it became Billed. Your account was blocked on 2.1.18

When the books are returned the Bill will automatically change into a fine and your account will be released.

Please return the book – to any Campus – as soon as possible
In future I would encourage you to get into the habit of renewing books.

Thanks

Blocked account

I am just after a bit of help please. My discover is not working on my account I can access ebooks but not any journals etc for my assignment. I think its because I owe money on books that are over due. I am only over due these books because the Putteridgebury campus library got removed and I’ve not had a chance to drop off my books to any other campus. Could you please unblock my account by any chance? I do have the books and my friend said she should be able to drop them off at the Luton campus on Friday.

Thank you,

Your library account has £93.72 of fines and replacement costs for very overdue items and so your account has been blocked until the books are returned or paid for.

You borrowed all 4 items 19.5.17 and Putteridge Bury Library collection closed on 22 July 2017. You have been back at University since October. You seem to have taken the trouble to renew these books 19 times and sometime in November you stopped. When the books became more than 5 weeks overdue they became Billed. Your account was blocked on 22.12.17

When the books are returned on Friday the Bill will automatically change into a fine. As long as your total fines are less than £22 your account will be released.

Due to the high Bill and the fact that you have had these books for 8 months I cannot release your account until the books are returned. In future I would encourage you to keep renewing books you are using (unless someone else reserves them) until you reach the 25 times limit.

Renewals

Hi can you please tell me how to renew my library books on line.

I’m on BREO but not library renewal seem to me there.

Thank you for your enquiry. You will find the information on the library website. For ease please follow the link below

Online renewals are via the Library catalogue

Sign in with your usual username and password

Thanks

Blocked library account

I was unable to borrow or renew any books before Christmas due to unreturned items. I returned these before Christmas and I am still unable to request or reserve any books.

If someone could look into this for me I would really appreciate it.

Thank you for your enquiry. If you check your library account

sign in with your usual University ID number and password

You will see that you have a large number of small fines which add up to a total of £24.75
this is higher than our maximum fine limit

If you accrue over £22 in fines or billed items all access to the electronic library, borrowing, renewal and reservation rights are revoked. Automatic blocks will commence when a total of £22 has been reached.
Pay off some or all of your fines to re-gain your full library access and borrowing rights. Partial payment must take your total money owed below £22.

Please pay off all of the fines as soon as possible but make a start by paying off £3 so you can start using the library fully

Resources

I do not feel we have enough online resources for ebooks and ejournals. Other universities have access to significantly more than we do at our university. The Wiley Online journals would have been useful during my course, however we cannot access them. Furthermore, Proquest ebooks would have been useful for a number of assignments, as there are significantly more ebooks than we currently have access to.

Thank you for your raising your concerns. I am sorry to hear that you are struggling to access ebooks and ejournals.  We do have access to a significant number of ebooks in education and all recommended reading is regularly checked for ebook availability.  Similarly we subscribe to all the major education databases (Education Research Complete, British Education Index and ERIC) that gives access to almost 5,000 journal titles.

If you cannot access material that is required reading for your course please let your academic liaison librarian know know and she can check availability.

If it’s for dissertation research then you can use Document Supply to acquire items that are not held in stock.

Visitors

I am currently a student at Anglia Ruskin University at the Cambridge Campus. I live in Bedford and commute for my studies and would like to know if it is possible for me to gain access to the Bedford campus library.

Thank you for your enquiry. Please check with Anglia Ruskin that you are eligible for the Sconul Access scheme. If you are please start that process then apply to University of Bedfordshire when you have your authorisation email.
https://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/libraryservices/membership/external-users/categories

Please note it will take a minimum of 5 working day (possibly 10 at the moment) to process your application

Visitor

I called a few days ago regarding access to Bedfordshire uni however I was told to make this application in order to obtain a access card. ( I was told I can email through the scanned copies) I have attached the scan copy of the application, my access email from Sconul and I have also attached two full face picture of myself (attached two just incase one isn't suitable).

Thank you for your enquiry

You will know from the information on our website and what you will have been told that membership takes 2 - 5 working days to process and over Christmas this will extend to 7 - 10 working days.

As the University was closed 22.12.17 - 1.1.18 inclusive your application will not be processed until 8.1.18 at the earliest. You will be emailed when your membership card is ready to collect.

Overnight Loans

I went to renew my books online last week and it says that I'm fined up to a £1 and went to go and pay it on the machine; it said my balance was £0.00. I've gone onto renew my books again and it's saying the same thing. What should I do?

Thank you for your enquiry. I am sorry that you have been experiencing problems in renewing your books. I have looked at your library account and the majority of your books are due back on 8.1.18 so you won’t be able to renew them until then.

You will not be able to renew one item as it has been requested by another person so you must return that item on or before 8.1.18

Only 1 item is over due. It was due back on 13.12.17. You will have received an overdue notice for this item on 19.12.17 as it is an “overnight loan” ie issued for 24 hours only it cannot be renewed and you must return it at your soonest convenience. You will be fined £1 when you return this book.
