Fines

I have a fine on my library account. Could you tell me how to pay this please?

Thanks for your enquiry. You owe 75p

Please pay this via the self - issue machines on Campus next time you visit the library

Thanks

Luton Library - temperatures

Cold silent rooms. In Luton Library although the new library is great the silent rooms are very cold therefore I cannot study there and outside of the silent rooms is just too noisy to study, as a result I rarely go to the library for studying.

Thank you for raising your concerns. There are thermometers in each of the silent study rooms. Staff will be monitoring temperatures during the day but overnight if temperatures fall below 19 degrees it would be helpful if students emailed staff to let them know - stating date time and temperature reading.

The building management system for Luton library has set the temperatures between 19 - 23 degrees centigrade. If the building's temperature falls between these values then there is nothing that can be done. If temperatures fall below 19 dgrees then it needs to be reported to staff to be followed up with our Facilities team.

ejournals

Sociology books and journals only available at Luton not Bedford. Deviance journal behaviour sociology journal only in print at Luton

I can’t find deviance journal  or behaviour sociology journal on the catalogue at all

I am sorry that you feel that you cannot access the required resources.  I have some additional funding to spend on books at present, so if you can please clarify which unit(s) you feel are inadequately resourced, I will prioritise these and purchase more copies as needed as soon as I can. With regards to journals, I would say that the majority of the journal titles on your units are available across all campuses electronically. Learning Resources and Service Excellence have been forced to make savings in the journal subscriptions on a fairly substantial scale this year and regrettably, some of the print copies have had to be cancelled if we have an electronic subscription.

I purchase additional copies of the reading list items for ASS022-2 "Sociology of Deviance", but if you feel that any of your other units are particularly under-resourced, please email me th eunit code(s) and I will look to increasing the number of copies in those areas as well.

Renewals

I wanted to renew a book of international marketing  which I need for my exam. And I tried it but can't and it's showing that someone reserved it. But as I have exam on this subject I can't return it now. U fine me but I was trying to renew my book before time but the system was not accepted my renewal so what can I do. Please check and allow me to renew my book as I need this book for my final exam.

Thank you for your enquiry. I am rather confused
International marketing strategy is due on 22.1.17 – you have a fine on this item but no-one seems to have reserved it
Management information systems is due on 24.1.17 no fines and no-one seems to have reserved it
International Marketing Strategy is due on 22.1.17 no fines and no-one seems to have reserved it
Management and organisational behaviour is due tomorrow 17.1.17 no fines and no-one seems to have reserved it
Corporate finance doe on 24.1.17 no fines and no-one seems to have reserved it

You cannot renew an item before its due date

May I respectfully suggest you put an alarm on your phone for the date dates and renew the books on the day they are due for return?

Luton Library - cleanliness

Cleanliness of library is terrible especially silent study rooms

Thank you for raising your concerns. The University has a cleaning schedule which is enough to maintain the required standards of the library environment. Unfortunately there are a few customers who choose not to treat the library with respect and make a mess, leave food waste and litter etc around the building. These actions put additional workload on the cleaning team. They do their best and the library is cared for but there may be delays in dealing with particular problems.

Learning Resources would hope that all customers would prefer to work in a pleasant study environment and that starts with personal responsibility for clearing up after yourself and reporting concerns

Renewals

I have tried renewing my items online but it won’t let me, I assume it’s because somebody else has them on hold? Am i able to return them to the Aylesbury campuses as this is closer or does it have to be Luton?

Thank you for your enquiry. You could not renew the items as you had let item become overdue (it was due 5.1.17) I have renewed the items for you and they are now die on 16.1.17. If you wish to renew them again please do so on 16th.

You may return the books to Aylesbury Campus and you can ask for any reservations to be delivered to Aylesbury Campus if that suits you.

Luton Library - Lifts

A total and complete nightmare and a source of disappointment - carrying a heavy bag of books - one minute the lift was not working - then walking up the stairs - even they were closed. Very annoying. Please rectify this asap

Thank you for raising your concern. May I apologise on behalf of the University for the inconvenience. One lift is definitely working so please be sure to use that one while we resolve the issues with the other lift.

The lift that is out of order is waiting for a replacement part which is still on order. This is being chased up by our Facilities department.

Today the stairs have been closed in sections as essential maintenance of the stairwell lights is being completed. This is unavoidable as the Library is open 24/7 x 365 and I can only apologise for the inconvenience caused

Luton Library Lift

Very frustrating as only one lift is working

Luton Library - lift

I am strongly not happy about transporting around this building. As there is only one lift working I wait a long time as well as the stairs not in access use. This needs to be improved, changed and maintained correctly.

Over due book - Billed Status

I have received an invoice today billing me for a replacement book - Assessment for learning and teaching in primary schools. I am not happy that I have received this as it states the book is 'considerably overdue' and the first letter I receive from you is a charge for the book!

I returned this book on 3rd January to the Luton campus and I have paid the outstanding fines. I borrowed the book on 24th November and have tried to renew it several times but have been unable to as it was reserved by other students. I needed to keep the book as I was using it for my coursework and assignment. I would not consider having a book for just over a month as a considerable amount of time. If this book is in such high demand then maybe the University needs to invest in more copies instead of wasting money posting out threatening invoices.

I would appreciate it if you would enable my library account immediately.

Thank you for your email. There appears to have been an administrative hiccup where your Billed item notice was sent out even though the book was returned.

On returning the item your library account would automatically be released

Assessment for learning and teaching in primary schools was a 7 day loan (ie due back 1st Dec) so  the item was at least 5 weeks overdue and the person waiting for their reservation had to wait 6 weeks. For that person that is a considerable amount of time.

The University has 10 copies of this item which is sufficient to mean student needs when complying with loan periods which clearly state: renewals… unless reserved by another person:
Loan Periods
Standard Loan:
Loan period 2 weeks, 20 renewals per item - unless reserved by another person.
7 Day Loan:
Loan period 1 week, 20 renewals per item - unless reserved by another person.

You can check the status of your library account at any time you are online and this will indicate what loans fines or outstanding Billed Items you have
https://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/libraryservices/availableservices/regforserv/lib-reg

If you have any problems accessing digital materials please phone 01234 793189 for advice as it will have nothing to do with a Billed Item

External Customers - Sconul Access

I am emailing as I was wondering if it would be possible to use the library as I am a University of York student home for Christmas and need a study space to work for the next week. At the York library we have a scanning system so you can only get in if you are a student and I was wondering if this is the same at your library, if so, would it be possible for me to come in on a temporary pass?

Thank you for your enquiry. University of Bedfordshire does not operate the kind of system you describe. We do however welcome external customers via the Sconul Access scheme. I am pretty sure York is a member of this scheme. I appreciate that Sconul Access and then University of Bedfordshire may not process your application in time for this holiday but membership lasts until the end of your course so it would be worth doing it anyway.

Thanks

Praise for staff - Bedford

The library staff are very helpful and polite (Bedford Campus)

Thank you for your kind words. Its always nice to know we're doing something right.

Renewals

Library renewal emails - I was sent 1 after the first week, so renewed and then never heard again until a letter with a 'fine' notice

Learning Resources does not send renewal emails only overdue item emails. I have tried to investigate this for you but there are no items on loan on your account. This means that I am sorry but I cannot help you further

eJournals

I was informed by a lecturer that we would be able to access articles on the IEEE database with an institutional login.
How do I obtain the login details?

Thank you for your enquiry:  starting from the library catalogue click on the purple “Digital Library” tab

In the ejournals field click on the drop down arrow and select IEEE/IET and click GO

If you are on Campus you will go straight into the ejournal collection if you are off campus you authenticate with your standard University username and password.

There is a subject guide to support your studies on LRWeb I think you may find this useful
