Bedford - praise for staff

The library staff were very helpful and accommodating especially Clare Hewitt she was very helpful in making coming today to the Bedford Library enjoyable and learnt a lot. Thank you all.

PS I was also met at the entrance with support and a smile by Debbie Moore

I want to thank you for the kind words you said about Clare and Debbie at Bedford Campus Library.

Nursing Student - staff praise

Having just completed my top up degree as a nurse. BSC in Diabetes care. I enjoyed most of my lecturers, there was good communication between the students and Lecturers. Most of the lecturers were helpful and supportive. The library staff were also helpful, they go all the way to make sure my needs were met such as getting the books I needed for my course work and helping me to sort out the computer

We really appreciate you taking the time to let us know we're doing something right.  All the best for the future

Luton - WiFi

Please can you sort out the internet we pay money for this so we need the benefit of quality service

Thank you for raising your concerns with me. I apologise for the inconvenience caused. I am assuming that you are trying to connect to WiFi as there are no reported problems with University PCs. I am sorry that you are having problems with WiFi. Nothing has been reported to LRC staff today (14.11.14) To resolve any issues please ensure you have followed advice from LRC staff. It may be a case of moving to a different part of the LRC.
http://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/libraryservices/availableservices/wifi
The University is experiencing connection fluctuations with its WiFi network. If none of the normal access routes work may I suggest that you work on one of the LRC's PCs and save your work to a USB stick. This isn't an ideal solution but while the University attempts to resolve the WiFi problems we may have to work differently for a while.

UCMK - reservation collection kiosk

I was extremely excited about returning to education via University of Bedfordshire, MK Campus and induction day talked about us being equal to full time students and good facilities in all campus's. I am afraid I have been disappointed by the facilities at MK Campus,  Even the library machine is broken so we cannot order books, I ordered one over a week ago but couldn't collect it last week,

Thank you for taking the trouble to write to me about your concerns. You can always order books via the library catalogue to support your studies at UCMK
http://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/libraryservices/availableservices/reserve
The library kiosk machine unfortunately was broken for a short while but that - I am happy to say - has now been fixed. If there is ever any technical problems there is a manual collection service from the customer service desk in place to mediate this. It sounds that on this occasion the member of staff was away from the desk and therefore couldn't help you. I do apologise for the inconvenience this has caused you.

Butterfield Temperature

The library staff are extremely helpful and polite. Thank you Also there is no heating in the library and it is freezing

We really appreciate you taking the time to let us know we're doing something right.  The staff look forward to serving you in the future. I am sorry that the study environment at Butterfield is rather cold at the moment. The heating problems at Butterfiled in the LRC have been reported and are under review by the University's Facilities department. I have reinforced the helpdesk process by requesting supplementary heaters until the heating issues have been resolved.

Endnote

Can some students come over to get Endnote installed on their PC/apple laptops.

The company who was the reseller for Endnote has gone into administration and can no longer supply personal copies of the software or provide support. ICT are the administrators for Endnote and anyone specifically wanting an Endnote account needs to help desk their request with ICT.

Finding Resources

Can i access journal articles through Breo, or should i be using some other portal? I'm looking for this Malik, R., Mandin, P. (2012). Engaging within and across culture. In Krause, I. B. (Ed.). (2012). Culture and Reflexivity in Systemic Psychotherapy: Mutual Perspectives. Karnac Books i cannot get it from Google scholar, and it is not an article which has been uploaded to the 'Gateway area@ I'm sure i was told all of this in my excellent induction, but apparently it was too much to retain, are you able to direct me ?

Thanks for your enquiry. BREO has links to the library catalogue
https://brum.beds.ac.uk/
and DISCOVER

PCs in Silent areas

Can we have some more computers in the quiet area of the library. There are two there but a few more would get us away from the noisy computer room when we want to study.

In order to maintain the study environment in the silent areas Learning Resources minimises the number of desk top PCs available. There are booking facilities and I would advise you to use them to ensure that you get a PC in the environment you prefer to work in

International Business - books

No books available in the library. All suffer for books and due to less books we have to book it early.

I am sorry that you are having problems accessing the resources you require. If you find an item on the catalogue or in DISCOVER that you want to use but isn't available digitally or from the library shelf  it is worth putting a reservation on

http://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/libraryservices/availableservices/reserve

I have checked the high demand reservations list and there are only two International Business titles with more that 2 requests so it is worth put on a request.
If the item isn't in stock as a Masters student you are eligible for Document Supply

Luton - PAD

Pad Team Online says that PAD is on level 1 when in reality it is on 2 floors. I had to wait longer because of a lack of this information on the website

Thanks for raising your concerns. The PAD drop-in is based on level 1 of the campus centre although the PAD team sometimes see students on both level 1 and level 2 at the same time if more than 1 tutor is running drop-in and there isn't space downstairs. The PAD teame operate on a first-come first-served basis regardless of where students are seen.

Yesterday the PAD team piloted running 2 queues to see if this could speed up seeing students. In the event the PAD team found this did not work so will not be repeating this approach to queue management. Learning Resources is sorry if this resulted in anyone having to wait longer than what would ordinarily be the case.

Luton - Self Service

The screen on the self service renting of books kept on crashing. Maybe its time for Uni to have a system check up done. If it weren't for the staff to manually scan the book we would have been able to take them home. Thanks

Thank you for bringing this problem to my attention. I can reassure you that this fault will be looked into immediately. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused.

We rarely experience any problems with our self issue equipment and so I am hopeful that we can rectify this issue straight away
http://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/libraryservices/availableservices/self-issue

There are 3 self issue machines on level 1 of Luton LRC and 1 by the IT Suite on the ground floor. Should you ever experience any problems again may I suggest that you try an alternative machine to minimise any inconvenience to you.
