You said:

in my opinion all the necessary requirements are there in library but sometime bit
confusion with the book that i want to borrow.

We said: I am sorry that you have experienced some confusion in using the library.
Web site: Our web site
http://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/
has the most up to date information about the services available from Learning
Resources. It also has contact details for those services and staff.
Handbook: Each year we produce a library handbook and it is available - free - throughout
the LRC and at induction, Freshers events and Study Hub drop ins.
Customer Service desk: The Customer Service desk on level 1 at Luton LRC is the first
port of call for any on Campus enquiry as staff will help you and where necessary call
in colleagues from the Study Hub to assist
http://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/studyhub/what-is-study-hub
SiD enquiry: If you are online the SiD enquiry service
can also help as you can ask whatever you want  and the enquiry will be directed to the
most appropriate service
Resources: There is a floor plan to tell you where different books are stored on display
above each set of doors in the LRC. Your course reading list will help you in identifying
what books you will need to read

Keep the noise level down.
Its not a bad service. There's ample access to books and journals and accessible from home.
 Even support.

We said: Thank you for your kind words. Luton LRC the silent floors are on levels 2 &3
are patrolled by staff and are electronically monitored for noise. if you
chose to work in
other areas of the LRC then noise cancelling headphones are your best option.
In Luton's current building to have any silent
working it has to be on a floor with book stock. In the new library (opening in L Block
July 2016) there are silent room on levels  4, 5 & 6. These will be behind a glass
wall away from the bookstock. This should make maintaining the silence requirement a lot easier..

You said: I think we need a real silent area. A silent area without displaying books as most of us need to talk
when choosing books. Thank you
Helpful people at the library and variable resources such as books, computers and journals .

You said: The noise levels and groups which use the 1st floor as somewhere to watch football or just have a social. This year there has been two groups which almost of a daily basis come in and sit in a circle taking up a whole row or two of computers and do nothing to talk socially and loudly. I've complained previously and got the response that if I want silence I should go the second floor. However I stand by the fact this was an unsatisfactory response. If there is team work or you quietly wish to work in pairs and small groups, you will be told not to talk at all on the 2nd floor, but on the 1st or 3rd floor you have to put up with loud noisey people. Then you have the hub which is usually quieter but then you don't have easy access to the books. The staff and security need to regulate the noise. It's a learning area which is treated like a canteen of noisey people which ruin the flow and standard of work of the majority of the other library users. Frustratingly it's the same 15-20 people who do it day in day out. It could be easily fixed if the library staff would be willing to stand up to them for the sake of others. I've complained about this main times but have been shrugged off.

Luton Study environment

Due to all of my previous comments about noise levels and despite previous complaints I've being given
unworkable 'solutions' which I could do instead of dealing with people who treat the library like the hub or
canteen.  Further, there's a small flaw in the system in which where a specific book is brought for someone to
complete there dissertation.. Why would it go onto the system straight away for other users to then reserve
when the book was specifics for someone work and crucial to there work? I've had to incur a fine and not
been able to take books out because the above has happened to me. I'd had the book 6 days before someone
reserved what was the only book relevant to the niche area my dissertation was on. What an unsatisfactory
service on top of the distractions allowed on floors 1 and 3.
Further, upon having a file go corrupt on my memory stick I sought the help from the staff however the attitude
I got was I should have used the u drive which is secure and accessible from home. I was told it was in the
handbook (which I didn't receive) and that it was signposted over the library (which I'm yet to see). When I
went to get the code to access the u drive, two members had to check whether they were supposed to give it
out to students and further specifically said they do not advertise the use of the u drive. When I was in a panic
about losing work I was made out to have made a stupid decision because I should have known of other
securer ways to transport my work but two other members contradicted all of that. Very disappointing treatment..

Book purchase: I am not aware of a book being bought specifically for you so I do not know the details I would
say that any item bought for Learning Resources is for anyone in the University community and everyone has
equal access to the resources. if a book is reserved then it has to go to that person and not be renewed
Handbook: our handbook is available from level 1 of the LRC from Setember until about April - you just
need to pick one up.  Its also available on line

Corrupt file: staff gave you specific advice about using your U drive it wasn't an attitude problem. i agree that as
you subsequently had problems accessing the code this wasn't particularly helpful. They could've suggested that
you purchase a new USB but I imagine that they wanted to save you money

Digital library Access

I have today been trying to access journals and ebooks via both the university library website and the journal websites directly using my University log in. This was not an issue earlier in the week when I was able to do so, however every site I have tried today gives me the following error when I either click through to enter my Bedfordshire Uni details or when I click on the link in the library website of the ebook...

'Unable to complete request at this time. (Request/Response was from an untrusted provider-5909BCF4EFB37AEE)'

I have tried googling this end to see ifthere is a solution but have drawn a blank. I am using the same computer I used earlier in the week (with no issues) and have also tried a different computer in case that was the issue

Do you have any ideas as to what could be the cause?

I am sorry that you have been experiencing problems. There doesn’t appear to be anything wrong with your library account I don’t know what problem you particularly experienced but I know there were some problems accessing the digital library last week which were reported for investigation last week and white boarded on Campus

I am copying our Library Technical team into this email to see if they have further advice but currently I can only advise please try again

Luton LRC

I currently hold a learning resource card which expires 16th Oct 2016. I was wondering if I can still use the university library resources

All External Customers are prohibited from using Luton LRC until August 14th due to University exams and our relocation. I apologise for the inconvenience but this is an extremely rare occurrence.
