Luton - Presentation room

I am in L208 of the library and I have arrived to practice an important presentation.

However, the computer screen has been broken and also the mouse has been broken by other students.

The room has also been left covered in food.

I am unsure how long it has been like this but I would like to add that a group of 5/6 students were in this room yesterday (I was rehearsing in the adjacent room) who were incredibly disruptive. Between 3pm - 5pm (I am unsure exactly which session). They were watching videos very loudly which included a child saying F*K. They were also banging on the walls. I am unsure how this was related to their studies, my guess is it wasn't.

Would you be able to do something about the abuse of these rooms? In particular for us postgraduate students who have to complete presentations as part of their exams and also as part of our research these two rooms are precious. I now cannot rehearse as I do not have the computer screen to refer to.The continual mess, food and rubbish also in both rooms is a big problem. I believe students are using these rooms to watch movies and socialise in ways which are unrelated to their studies.

Thanks, sorry this message isn't happier. I love this library and it is an incredible space. Thank you for managing it and providing us with such a good service :).

Thank you for raising your complaint I sympathise with how unpleasant it is to use a dirty work station. The library has a cleaning programme to maintain the study environment generally and it has a code of conduct to guide customers as to what is regarded as acceptable behaviours.

This joint attempt keep the library in excellent condition - between customers, cleaners and other staff. Unfortunately there are a few customers who do not take these requirements seriously hence the deterioration in our normally high standards. This usually happens when people eat in the bookable rooms despite the fact that all hot and otherwise messy food is not allowed on the library floors. There are sanctions in place where necessary.

Regarding the broken equipment we are awaiting ICT to replace the broken power supply on monitor. The mouse will be swapped out if required once we have assessed the need. Please be sure to book L207 until L208 is mended ..

Luton - keyboards

want to take this opportunity to drop a complaint about the library computer desks. Every time I go to study in the library the computer desks be dirty and have food traces around it. But most importantly the keyboards and mouses be very dirty and oily which puts me off not to use the library.

I would just ask you guys to please clean the keyboards on a regularly basis. Please let me know on what happens?

I am just enquiring regards to the SCONUL. How will the other universities understand that I have access? I have applied for South Bank and Middlesex University, and been accepted for both thank you.

Would you be kind enough to let me understand regards to my entries?

I hope this helps

Luton Library environment

The library is atrocious, a learning place should be clean and free of dirt, having to wipe down the desks my self every time I study is not acceptable. There should be some respect from the staff in charge to have a new library kept in top condition

Sconul Access

I am a distance learning MSc student with another University but I live in Luton.  I have been successful in my application for SCONUL library access and would veey much like to visit the University of Bedfordshire Luton library from time to time.

My SCONUL email says that generally all I need to bring is a copy of my acceptance email and my student ID but that I should check if you have any other requirements.  Is there anything additional you need me to do or any particular restrictions of which I should be aware?

Thank you for your enquiry

Our website has all the information you need. Please follow the links below. Download the application form. Hand it in with a passport style photo then accept our terms and conditions email (when it comes through) then you will get notification to come in and collect your membership card within 5 - 10 working days

Grace period

I have a few 7 day loan books borrowed from library and the due date was 3rd of March but I renewed them on 4th, which is 1 day after the due date. So how much the penalty is and where can I check the penalty online?

Thank you for your enquiry, you don’t owe anything.

Having renewed your loan within the "grace period" you are not fined for being a day late. The grace periods are explained online but it is a bit confusing
Click on the FULL DETAILS link

There is a seven day grace period on standard loans and three day grace period for seven day loans, before the overdue is sent out by email. You will not be able to renew, reserve or borrow any items after this time unless you bring the overdue item to the Customer Service Desk for a member of staff to check the item and renew if possible. You will incur a fine when the item is renewed.

You can always check your library account and renew any books which are about to become overdue online

Click on LRC/Library link
Click on the Renewals tab
Sign in with your usual University of Bedfordshire username and password

Alumni access to digital resources

Can you please advice if the online library is available to alumni? Otherwise, is this being considered for sometime in the future. I realised I was unable to access since graduating and thought it would be nice if alumni could access some of those valuable reference materials we used during study. It would really be helpful to be able to refresh your memory once in a while even after getting into industry.

Thank you as I look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks for your enquiry.

Access to the University of Bedfordshire’s digital resources is available on Campus using the guest wifi on your own portable device or one of the library’s kiosk PCs. Details of which resources are available is here

There are no digital resources available remotely (ie outside the library) to alumni or any other visitor and there are no plans to buy the necessary additional licences to enable this is the short to medioum term.

I would strongly encourage you to join the library and use the resources on Campus.

Thanks

Printing complaint

I had experienced issues with printing all day on 22.2.18 asked a member of staff for help at around 16.15. She could not resolve the issue so went off to find a colleague. This member of staff never returned. I was late for a meeting.

Thank you for raising your complaint. I am sorry that you experienced difficulties printing last week and that you were late for a meeting.

I understand that you were:
refunded for printing that didn’t print double sided
three pages printed when you expected four.  When the member of staff checked there was only three pages to the document.
had been been shown what to to and was told to come back to desk if you had further problems.

I have spoken to the team and they will be sure to be clear in communicating expectations so being left waiting does not happen again.
