I have found the mindfulness workshops really useful. It would be great if you could run them more often or as part of an induction package in the first year
What a fabulous suggestion! I will check with colleagues to see what capacity there is to do this. Thank you

Luton Library temperature
Would it be possible to
look at the a/c setting on level 4? The reason being that It is a bit too cold
here. And I feel I need a jumper, but given the outside temperature, I never
believed I'd need one today.
Thank you for raising your concerns. The external temperature today is in the region of 30 degrees centigrade. The building management system in Luton library has a temperature
range of 19 – 23 degrees centigrade. Its currently at 23 degrees centigrade on
level 4 which will feel substantially cooler than outside but is not cold.
If you feel uncomfortable may I suggest that you do not sit
over the circular metal vents on the floor or find a seat near the window.
I hope this helps

Alumnus Membership
I have recently finished my final year studies at the
University of Bedfordshire. I am just emailing as I have heard that after
graduation I may be able to still use library resources after graduation for a
short period of time. Is this true, and If so please could I have access as I
would like to continue independent learning in a few areas of interest?
Thank you for your enquiry. As a graduate you will have
access via your student credentials until October 2017 at that point I would
advise you to apply to become an Alumnus member of University of Bedfordshire’s
Learning Resources.

Opening Hours
l am studying Msc Financial Economics.I have studied my undergraduate degree at this University (Luton Campus) and one of the reasons why l pursued my studies here it was because of the 24/7 library use.
I am writing to you regarding the 24/7 library use ,l do not know the exact reason why the library use has changed to 20:00 closing time during summer. As a University l am sure everyone is aware of the new Block delivery programs for Masters degree which is very intense which everyone agrees on ,we do not get Summer holidays like everyone else we have to submit work and exams taking place ,in addition we do most hours individual study.I feel like 24/7 library use is essential for some of us which of course the university forgot to put into account when making that decision regarding the library closing time.l feel like it is unfair for some of us because we need it more than yet it is there to benefit undergraduates and people who are not doing block delivery.
When planning for a course like this as a human being we calculate things like cost ,accessibility ,achievable and convenience. Not everyone is from a normal family where you can afford to survive and afford a perfect studying environment especially now that the course is so intense which reduces the hours of work(income). We formed study groups and we need to meet up as group to study ,most people live in London and need an environment which can accommodate everyone until we finish a project. If it means we have to stay late at the library ,do all night study ,the university should be be able to help us with that.We discussed this as a class and it seems very difficult and it's too much inconvenience ,nobody will have a big house to accommodate people and those with bigger space they have families which makes a very unsuitable studying environment. So if you can please reconsider this decision and consider everyone including the Block delivery students OR find a better solution for us , we would really appreciate it.Thank you.l look forward hearing from you .
Thank you for raising your concerns. The University has had to reduce the 24/7 library opening offer to save money. To that end Bedford and Luton Libraries opening hours will change over the summer period only. Specifically opening hours will change 12 June - 1 October 2017 effecting this change will ensure that 24/7 is operational for the rest of the year.
This change was on the Library opening hours page from 24.4.17.
The University will review its opening hours options throughout the summer. Any changes will be advertised on our website. Your concerns will be passed to senior management

I was notified I need to leave the library at 8 pm yesterday.I really feel annoying and want to complain about this. I am a postgraduate student majoring in MBA. We have a lot of guided learning material to finish and if the library close that early, I only have 1 or 2 hours to do this, which is obviously not enough. Could you have a look at it and reply to me

Thanks for the reply message.
The Univeristy needing to save money isn't for me a good enough reason to close whilst there is still fee paying students completing their studies.
Yes whilst the attachments may not show the "new" times that are further down the website the Univeristy still continues to promote and advertise that the Library is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This is simply not correct.
As I stated in my previous email, if the Univeristy is willing to accept a March start course then the facilities should remain the same as that of a September start student.
It seems to me that money saving is taking priority over students education.
I look forward to hearing from you.
I understand your frustration I really do. At this point be assured that I am taking your concerns to the Director of Learning Resources and Service Excellence and this will be discussed with the University's senior management team.
The 24/7 x 365 messages were changed today to avoid confusion. I am sorry that this hasn't been the case for you. We used web page information and student email to get the message across. We also repeated the message; first publicised at Easter then in June.
The University's senior management does listen and act on the views of our students so I am passing on your views .

Opening Hours
I am writing to you to express my deepest concerns at the email I received on June 9th regarding the new opening hours for the University's library service.
I would like to draw your attention to the attachments below which shows screen shots of the University's website which details that both the Luton and Bedford Libraries are 24/7, 365 days a year.
I am a full time student that is on a March to March year course. We complete our studies including exams, presentations and assignments all throughout the year with only a few weeks off during the summer, this year that is from the 24th of July to the 24th of August.
Following seeing the new hours I am deeply concerned for my education for a number of different reasons.
Firstly, computer access. As a full time student with no income I cannot afford to purchase a laptop or computer and therefore rely on the use of the UOB computers.
Secondly, as my course requires me to complete 750 hours placement a year, including weekends and nights , the new opening hours including being closed on certain Sundays will seriously disturb my study patterns thus leading to a detrimental effect on my study.
Thirdly, being a March start student I feel I am suffering by not having the same facilities that a September student has, whilst still paying the same amount in fees. I feel if the UOB is prepared to take in students outside of the standard academic year then they should be prepared to offer the same support and facilities.
Fourthly, I live in student accommodation and only have one room which is a small space. For me my room is a place of relaxation and not a good environment for study as it poses too many distractions and excuses for me not to study. By having the library as a learning space it allows me to give time and focus to my study.
Lastly, the UOB has continued to advertise and boast the fact that they offer a library that is 24/7, 365 days a year and this is simply not the case.
I write this email in the hope that the management of the university will revert there decision of the opening times on which there was no student consultation. I feel that the University needs to support its students and I feel that the revised opening hours are a cheap shot at saving money at the expense of our education.
I trust that by reading this email you will get the sense of the desperation that I have for this decision to be immediately reversed.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Please keep the library open 24/7 I am on placement for 24 hours per week and University lectures and and work and sometimes Sunday is the only time I can be here!!

Opening Hours
Good afternoon It is with deep disappointment that I hear the library is discontinuing a 24h service. As a mature student and single parent this will make me reconsider continuing postgraduate education here. Please could you advise me as to who I can take this matter up with as I'm sure I'm not the only student that this will affect.

Alumnus Membership
I totally love having access to the library, its been one of the best things about my course. Although I am pleased to be graduating, I will miss the library. I want to do some research to help with my NQT year.
When is the latest date that I will be able to use the library? Can I return books by post if I am not going to be on campus?
Thank you for your enquiry. You will have student access until October 2017. After that may I encourage you to become an Alumnus member. You don't get the same student rights but you do get access rights, details here

Summer Opening Hours
The library on
Bedford campus is excellent because it is 24/7, however, we were not told that
it was no longer going to be 24/7 until the end of term. why is this? to save
money? but my fees are still the same price even though i do not have access to
learning resources at all hours. What about Masters course that run from
October to October they could potentially only have access to the library 9am -
6pm between June and october, the busiest time for MA students. We rely highly
on our Library resources and to not have this available at all hours will be a
shame. Personally for me i work full time and come in to the library after work
to complete my assignments - how will this work for me?
