Digital access

I am having real problems with VLebooks. I don't seem to be able to read anything online. Whenever I click it nothing happens. I have also had a pop up saying that I do not have enough credits to view one of the books.
I hope you can help.

Thank you for your enquiry. I am sorry that you are having problems with accessing digital materials. May I check are you searching via the Library Catalogue or DISCOVER? Or are you trying to access Reading List materials via BREO.
Search DISCOVER from the front page of LRWEb
https://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/

There is an online help guide for your course

If none of these help please ring Bedford Library during staffed hours and talk through the problem you have with a member of staff.

Written Warning

Why don't you instead inform students of these strange rules before starting applying them. It is a shame to block access upon first warnings to PhD students over such long periods.

A member of the library staff discovered you talking in the silent room. Luton Library has designated silent study rooms which are clearly marked. The silence requirement is in our Code of Conduct which you signed to say you would abide by when you registered for the University.

Silence is a requirement ie no talking what so ever, this makes it simple and direct for everyone to understand. If you breech this requirement our 3 strikes sanction comes into play. All the details are on our website

If you wish to discuss this further I am happy to see you

Luton Library late opening

Poor service received today. Library due to open at 06:00 following essential electrical maintenance. I arrived at 06:00 to find the library still closed. I understand that delays occur, however to be stood outside for 45 minutes in sub zero temperatures, without any acknowledgement from the library/security staff, who could see i was waiting. Even when allowing entry to other staff members i was not acknowledged once. When the doors were finally opened, i didn't receive any form of greeting or apology. Never had any issues previously but i felt frustrated and let down by the service today. It's not like i could have just popped home as i commute 40+ miles to get to university.

Thank you for contacting me with your concerns. I was very disappointed to read about the late opening of the library Monday 26 February and the lack of Customer Service while you waited to come in. I have spoken to the Head of Security and he has asked me to please express our sincere apologies. He will deal with the officer concerned. The instruction was clear to open the library at 0600hrs. I can arrange for you to meet up with the Head of Security if you would like to.

Luton - silent study

i am on the second floor in the individual computer green booths and the female opposite me in braids keeps rapping really loud with headphones on i cannot concentrate and it is frustrating

Thank you for raising your concerns. I sympathise with your frustration but level 2 is a social learning floor. If you need silent study you need to use the silent study rooms on levels 4, 5 & 6

Sconul Access

I live in Bedfordshire and am a current student in Liverpool, I was wondering whether your libraries are open to the public?

I will be starting my post grad with you in September but I would love to be able to use your library to complete my current work while at home if this is a possibility?

Thank you for your enquiry. Please check with your home institution but I believe you are eligible to use the Sconul Access scheme. This is a free scheme but it is a 2 step process. If Liverpool tell you that you can apply for authorisation apply for that as advised then wait for the authorisation email. Once you have that you may apply to the University of Bedfordshire.

Once we receive your application for and photo it will take 10 working days to process.

Sconul Access

Please see below my approved Sconul Access. I have spoken to Security, who have told me that can't find my card.

I have used Sconul previously, and my photograph and other details will be on your system.

I need to start using the library as soon as possible, so can you kindly arrange for this by this week.

Thank you for your enquiry. As you will know from using the Sconul Access scheme you will need to re-apply to progress a new membership card. Authorisation to use the service is only step 1.

If you have your old University of Bedfordshire membership card send it in with your application form and it will be processed quickly. If you no longer have the card we will need a new photo (we do not keep ex- members’ photos on file). Once we have received your application for and photo it will take 10 working days to process

Tablets for loan

Soon I will start my data collection for my dissertation.
I wanted to ask if I can borrow a tablet from the library.
I have a passive task and participants are require to watch  a short video on a table as computer will be used for EEG.

Please let me know if I can borrow a tablet.

If not please advice me if any of the departments can help me to borrow one.

Many thanks for your enquiry. University of Bedfordshire Learning Resources and Service Excellence does not loan tablets. I am sorry I cannot help you with this.

Luton Campus Library loans laptops for use within the library only (without exception) so I cannot even offer you this as alternative.

I would advise you to check with your lecturer to see if your department has equipment for loan

Text book citations

I was wondering if someone could help me understand what the numbers in brackets at the end of a sentence from a text book paragraph mean i have copied and pasted an example.

Symptom dimensions actually reflect groups of symptoms that generally occur together and may explain a part of the phenotypic variation between patients [4,5,6,7,8]. First concepts to classify symptomatology stem from Kraepelin’s original distinction between affective and non-affective psychoses with ‘dementia praecox’ [9].

Thank you for your enquiry. If you look at the end of the chapter you will find a reference list, showing where the information has come from. Each item in the reference list will be numbered. Where there is more than one number [4, 5, 6, 7, 8], this means that multiple sources have provided that information.
There is on-line supprt for your course here

On Campus I would advise you to take advantage of the Study Hub team

Visitor

Wondering if you can help.
I am studying MA Strategic Marketing . I am doing the distance learning course and based in Milton Keynes. I was wondering if I could use you campus library facilities for my study.
This will include, WiFi, library space, textbooks if you have the ones I need etc.

I would use the public library but they get very noisy. I spoke to a friend of mine who studies distance learning at University of Law and I’ve been told local universities have a facility to let non students use their facility as long as they are a student elsewhere?

If you can do this can you let me know what I need to do or provide you with?

Thank you for your enquiry about use of University of Bedfordshire library facilities.

Your University is not part of the Sconul Access scheme so there isn’t free membership route for you to use.

You may pay for membership on an annual basis details here:
