Luton - MACs

Please can you provide a few MACs to Silent room? Thank you

In order to maintain the study environment on the silent floor Learning Resources minimises the number of desk top PCs available on levels 2 & 3 at Luton LRC

We will look into swapping one of the PCs on the silent floor (level 2) for a MAC I will let you know when this has happened

Students with Assistive Status

I have a complaint to make regarding the Library.  I have a book, now overdue, which I tried to renew online on Mon 27th Oct, which was the due date.  The system did not let me renew it - it didn't say anyone else had reserved it, or give any other reason, the screen just froze.  I tried several times with the same result.  I had been into Campus earlier in the day for an ITT session and could have brought the book with me had I known the system would be down, but I did not, and as I live in Cambridge it was not feasible for me to go back and get it.

This book is now overdue and unable to be renewed as it has a reserve on it.  As I don't drive, it is currently half term, and Uni doesn't start again until 12th Nov, I have no chance to return the book before then, by which time it will have incurred an enormous fine.

I have a Learning agreement with the University.  As I tried my utmost to renew the book on Mon 27th I think it is very unfair that I should incur what will be a substantial fine. I feel this would be discriminatory as it was clearly a fault in the system which made renewing the book on 27th impossible.

Thanks for your enquiry. Looking at your library account I can see that you borrowed that book on 10.9.14. You have renewed it 7 times and was due back yesterday 27.10.14
There is a waiting list of  3 people who have placed reservations and are waiting to use that book. This means that you can no longer renew it and must return it as soon as possible.
You say that the system did not let you renew the book. There is a message that comes up to say "Reserved by another customer please return"

As a Student with Assistive Status you do not get charged fines. Full information is on our website:
Assistive Customers are entitled to unlimited renewals (unless the item is requested by another customer). Fines will be waived but other associated sanctions will apply.

I am sorry that you weren’t aware of this information. It would have been covered at your orientation/induction albeit briefly. Did you miss it by any chance? Please take advantage of the information on LRWeb to help you find out more to help your research.

Aylesbury - new books

There are not enough new books in the library. When a medical topic is needed some of the books are too old. We need new ones

Thank you for raising this issue your Academic Liaison Librarian has been in contact with Jordan Lewis from the Student Union. They will be arranging a meeting to talk to the students about resources at Oxford House.

WiFi

Wi-FI works terribly. Cannot connect to Eduroam. I keep logging off if I change my location. Then I need to try to log in to guest Wi-Fi if I'm lucky enough

Thank you for raising your concerns. Unfortunately the University had WiFi problems on Sunday 26 October. These have been addressed and should now be resolvedPlease ensure you have followed advice from LR staff  if this doesn't it may be a case of moving to a different part of the Library

Putteridge Bury -library facility

A few books I am interested in are listed as being at the Putteridge Bury LRC.

I am a new P/T student and this is the campus I am based at on Thursday evenings. If I reserve the books where do I collect them at Putteridge Bury? We haven’t been shown a library facility there.

There is a small Education Collection on the Putteridge Bury campus. You would have been told this at your induction/orientation – did you miss the session? If you ask the reception staff on Campus or your tutor they should be able to direct you to the library room.

I am sorry but there is no reservation collection facility at Putt at the moment. We are hoping to change this in the next couple of weeks. In the mean time please collect your reservations for Butterfield (open until 5pm) or Luton LRC open 24/7 x 365

I have tried to answer your question as thoroughly as possible. If you need me to expand further or if I have missed anything out please get back to me.
There is a wealth of information on LRWeb to help you http://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/libraryservices/availableservices

UCMK -Psychology Books

It is very disappointed to see that there are not books related to the Psychology degree at the Milton Keynes Uni library. Would be possible to provide at least with a few books or journals, please?

Thank you for taking the trouble to write to me with your request. The majority of University held journals are on-line and I would advise you to check the catalogue to access those resources via your PC or laptop.
As for books, there is an issue with shelf space at UCMK. If you would like to specify what you'd like to see your Academic Liaison Librarian will see what he can do for you.

Student email

Why will the student email account not allow me to log in when I enter my ID number & Password?
I can obtain access to BREO using these

I am sorry that you have been having problems with your student email account. Is it still not working? Your student email account may be accessed by

going to  mail.study.beds.ac.uk and logging in using your username and password.  Even though you may have a personal email account you need to check your university one on a regular basis to read important emails sent from your course or the university.

http://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/libraryservices/availableservices/regforserv/e-mail

BREO is quite a separate product

If you have followed the advice above and you still cannot get into your email account please get back to me straight away

Bedford - Eduroam

Student unable to log onto any wifi, Guest, Student or Eduroam anywhere on the campus. He was extremely annoyed about this and asked for feedback to be sent to the appropriate person (14.10.14)

I am sorry that you could not connect to Eduroam on 14th October. Sometimes it is worth moving to a different part of the building or, as alternative its worth using Learning Resources pcs. There is no Student WiFi only Eduroam so please do not attempt to use that route again.

Putteridge Bury

Please can I pick up books at Putteridgebury again? I've driven all the way to Bedford

Learning Resources is trying to find a resolution to the Putteridge Bury staffing problem as our website says:
Due to circumstances beyond our control we can no longer staff Putteridge Bury library. This means that Putteridge Bury stock cannot be reserved and Putteridge Bury is no longer a reservation collection point. When you reserve other materials from the library catalogue please select the next most convenient campus to collect your books from ie Butterfield LRC, Luton LRC, Bedford Library, Aylesbury LRC or UCMK
Access to the print stock is offered for a limited time and the University would ask you to issue and return your items without staff help. If you get stuck please ring 01582 743895 for assistance
As soon as we have a solution in place we will let you know

DawsonEra

I am not sure who to direct regarding issues with downloading ebook from Dawson Era (DE). I am facing problem with downloading an ebook from DE. Whenever I download it, the PDF will be empty. I did relayed this issue to DE help desk sometime in April. Till to date, I did not received any resolution.

Thank you for your enquiry. I am sorry that you are experiencing problems with DawsonEra and have been for some time. Today Monday 20 Oct the University is experiencing problems with accessing eresources. The problem has been reported and is being worked on. I do not have a completion time so may I suggest you try again in about an hour?

Once this problem has been resolved if you continue to have problems with Dawson Era please contact me straight away

IT Problems 20.10.14

Could you please advise how I go about downloading journal articles from BREO / online library catalogue.
I have had a search on the browser and can’t seem to locate the right path.

Thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately the University is experiencing a few IT Problems at the moment with access to eresources, student email and BREO. The matter is being worked on. Until the issue is resolved I am sorry but you will not be able to access any items from the catalogue.

We have not been given a resolution time so may I suggest you try again in an hour?

Thank you for your patience

Putteridge Bury - Reservations

I am a 3rd year student doing a part time course at Putteridge Bury. I have recently been informed there will be limited library service at the campus anymore and if I want a book that is kept at another campus I must travel there myself. Please tell me WHY? Considering the amount of money I have to pay for my education, the very least ANYONE should expect is a library? As someone who does not drive and lives a 10 minute walk from Putteridge bury, I have relied on having my books delivered to the campus. Do you think it is unfair that other students at other campuses have the benefit of a book delivery service whilst others do not? I look forward to reading your response.

Access to the print stock is offered on a self service basis and the University would ask you to issue and return your items without staff help. If you get stuck please ring 01582 743895 for assistance
You are advised to take advantage of Luton LRC or Bedford Library as they are open 24/7 x 365

I understand your frustration - please understand this decision has not been taken lightly and we are trying to put some restorative measures in place. Please be clear the Education Collection is available on a self service honour basis Monday - Friday 9am - 6pm. It will remain open while we solve the staffing issues. When new staff are in place the facility to collect reservations will be restored. In the meantime should you need to collect a reservation the nearest location is Butterfield (just across the dual carriage way from Putteridge)

Applied Education Book

We have been asked to use Be Safe! health & safety in primary school science - only 1 copy seems to be available

Firstly apologies for only having one copy in stock at Bedford library.  3 copies have now been ordered (unfortunately it is not available as an ebook).  It will  take a couple of weeks to arrive in the library.

You could try the University bookshop – John Smiths to buy a copy http://www.johnsmith.co.uk/product/9780863574269/be-safe

It appears to be out of stock at Amazon but there is one copy available on the abebooks website http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=12852683546&searchurl=isbn%3D9780863574269%26amp%3Bsts%3Dt
if you did want to buy a personal copy.
