Luton Noisy study environment

I suggest that no socialising or group works should be allowed in silence area because there are areas designated for socializing and group works and students who want to chat have the option to chose to go to those areas while students like me who want to concentrate in studying have no other option (e.g. no home study) apart of the silence area. If I could do it at home I wouldn’t come to silence area....
Many thanks for your comments and suggestions.

Maintaining the study environment throughout the LRC is a co-operative effort between LRC staff, security and our customers. Learning Resources has put measures in place, namely electronic monitoring along with support from security to maintain the study environment. It is a priority for Learning Resources to provide a variety of study environments and I wholeheartedly agree that a silent area should be exactly that - silent.

I am concerned that you report in your email that you reported:
These days a group of noisy students attend in second floor almost every evening (e.g. on 7th and 8th Feb 13) and change it into a socialising pop. Security suggested me to email LRC’s manager as it seemed that they were not able to resolve the problem and stop the laud noise of singing laughing and laud talking from far desks to each other. This happens even deliberately to make more disturbances to those who have reported the matter to the security.
I will follow this up with security. I am more than happy that you have raised your concerns with me. A more immediate response however would have been for you to tell the staff on duty at the Customer Service desk on level 1 so they could attend and if necessary intervene.

In the new "University of Bedfordshire Student Partnership Agreement" in the section on Respect - we have a concern for all our students and staff

the Agreement states:
Students agree to:
Contribute to the community by being considerate to others and respecting the facilities and resources provided by the University and Students’ Union.
Conduct themselves respectfully towards their neighbours and the local community and in such a way that reflects well on the University community

this underlines the two way partnership between the University and the student community in creating a suitable learning environment for everyone.

I hope that you do not encounter any more problems on the silent floors but if you do please report it to staff at the level 1 Customer Service desk in the first instance.
I have tried to answer your question as thoroughly as possible. If you need me to expand further or if I have missed anything out please get back to me.
