Alumnus membership

I have been informed by one of your member of staff, I can send you this application for LRC membership card.

I'd be pleased if you confirm this upon receipt and when it will be ready for collection.

Thank you for your enquiry. If you check our web pages you will see that
Alumni must be in good standing with the university to take advantage of the fee waiver. - See more at: http://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/libraryservices/exusers/cond-of-memb

You currently have £4.50 in outstanding fines which need to be paid. I cannot progress your application until this is done.

We also need a passport style photo and proof of address before we can process your application. Once you have paid your outstanding fines and supplied those items I’d be happy to process your request

Reading Lists

I am a new student starting this September, and it mentions about readinglists.beds.ac.uk, but when i go there its asking for a login.  How do I register, so I can view the reading list for my course, and try to obtain some of the books etc before I attend University, or is this not possible?

At the URL http://readinglists.beds.ac.uk there is a sign in option, but it is not required. You can navigate the site without logging in.
The problems you are having may be due to the fact that the reading lists will be marked as 2013-14 because we are awaiting rollover to the new academic year. Or you may be looking something up which hasn’t been loaded yet. Happy to answer questions by phone if you'd like 01234 793006

Sconul Vacation Scheme

I just had a question regarding the 24/7 library you have. I am studying at Open University (Last year of BA) and I was wondering if I could use the library even if I am not a student at the Beds University?

You could ask the OU about Sconul Access membership.
In the meantime over the summer University of Bedfordshire participates in the Sconul Vacation Scheme
The Sconul Vacation scheme is available during University of Bedfordshire's summer vacation only. That means June 14th to October 4th 2014. You will need your home University id card at all times.

Due to swipe access at Luton LRC and Bedford Library you are advised to apply for Summer Reference access to enable unmediated access. You will need a passport style photo for this. Without a Summer Reference membership card you will not have access post 18.00.

Praise: Luton, Butterfield and Putteridge Bury

... Staff support at Park Square, Butterfield and Putteridgebury was excellent. The librarian support both by telephone and in person was excellent. Staff at all 3 sites were always helpful and efficient.

I  want to thank you for the kind words you said about Learning Resources staff at Luton,

 Butterfield and Putteridge Bury .

Your thoughts are important to us, and we're especially pleased when the feedback is

positive.

We try hard to provide the best possible service to our customers and their satisfaction is our

reward.  We are honoured to be part of your journey with the University of Bedfordshire

We really appreciate you taking the time to let us know we're doing something right.

Aylesbury - praise for staff

I would like to be able to give some recognition to David Fulton who works at the L.R.C for the Buckinghamshire campus. He is not only very knowledgeable but always willing to help any student who approaches him. Although a lot of students praise him in person and between each other there has not been any formal recognition of the part he plays in helping student nurses to succeed in their studies. Therefore I am submitting this feedback in hope of either being given a format in which to give him recognition or for this to alert those in charge who can do so.

I  want to thank you for the kind words you said about David Fulton in Learning Resources.

Luton Silent Areas

I often study in silence area at library, but some poor educated students talks loudly and that really bother me, their behaviors obviously break the regulation, but no staff come to stop them, I suggest the uni sent more patrol to keep students quiet at silence, even at weekend.

Thank you for bringing your concerns to my attentionFirst of all I would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by this problem.

We take care to ensure that important matters such as this are properly managed and dealt with. It would be more appropriate if you spoke to staff about this so they could do something about this on the spot.

Levels 2 & 3 of the Luton LRC are silent floors. No amount of talking is acceptable. Phone conversations are supposed to take place on the landing outside the lifts. If other customers are making any noise please report it to staff. There are staff patrols approx every half hour and the area is electronically monitored for noise.

Levels 2 & 3 of Luton's LRC are designated Silent Study floors at the request of the student body. Provision is made for group and social learning elsewhere in the LRC so there is an expectation for students to choose their preferred study environment and abide by the requirements of that space. The Silent floors are monitored electronically and this is backed up by staff patrols - during staffed hours. Any student caught breaking the Silence requirement is allowed one warning after that Library sanctions come into effect. Student behaviour was a key theme at the Student Union conference. This is a university concern which is being looked at by staff, students themselves and the Student Union

Action is taken towards anyone who disregards the silence requirement. I hope this reassures you. Please tell staff directly if you experience any further problems (which I hope you don't).

On line resources

I have been having problems with the university online services for more than a month. I now cannot access the online library. Can someone please help me with this?

I have checked your accounts and there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with them. Have you typed your password in correctly (sorry but its as well to check). Are you using a laptop if yes what browser are you using on your laptop?Chrome or internet explorer are  recommended.

Are you going into the digital library via:
library.beds.ac.uk
or DISCOVER
http://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/help/digital

these are the only two routes you should be using. If you are trying to access the digital library via BREO there may be a problem with the BREO link into the catalogue.

If you are still having problems please talk to staff at the Customer Service desk if you are on Campus. If you are away from Campus please ring in
http://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/contact

during staffed hours
