Luton Library - self issue machines
Put self issue machines on all floors that the books are on.
Many thanks for your suggestion. I am wondering why you want an issue machine on every floor? There's issue machines near the exit/entry barriers on both level 1 and the ground floor.
A lot of thought when into the design and effective distribution of services in the new library. It was decided that it would the most cost effective to have self issue machines at the exit points of the building rather than on every floor of the library. This would mean that no library stock would leave the building un-issued and customers would always be reminded to issue their books as they are about to go out of the building.
We will not be progressing your request at least in the short term but will bear it in mind should this prove to be a development in the new year.

Aylesbury - Read and Write Gold
I have been waiting for Read and Write Gold on the Aylesbury computers for 4 weeks and despite David Fulton continuing to try and sort it, it is still not done."
Thank you for raising your concerns. David Fulton has been given a quick fix for you you to help while the University deals with a loading issue we have been experiencing. David cannot sort this issue out himself. The problem with pushing new with software out to students has failed a number of times and has resulted in Uni servers being switched in the hope this would resolve the issue. We are hoping this will be completed resolved in the next week or so. In the mean time fix is being directly emailed to you.

Luton Library - laptop loans
Regarding Laptops in new LRC There are constant issues with laptop for hire: First there are issues to get them out of storage which staff were unsure about, then they would not log onto wifi which staff were unsure about and laptop nor LRc handbook doesn't not tell students how to log onto the laptops system, which meant myself and peers had to keep going up and down stairs for staff to fix issues as there are no staff on each level of the library, they do not answer the phone to answer enquirers and when we do go down to first floor they do not know how to sort the issues. THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE ALSO DUE TO MY MOBILITY ISSUES, i have to keep going up and down for a service which is not adequate and could be avoided.
Thank you for raising your concerns and please accept my apologies on behalf of the service for the issues you have been having
I know that getting the laptops out of their storage drawers is a bit tricky as you need to
Open the door
Unplug machine charger
Lift out the laptop with its portable power cable (attached to the top of the laptop)
Wifi: the laptop should automatically connect so you just need to physically re-start laptop by holding down the power button in for a few seconds until it logs off, re-start it and it will automatically lgwt onto the Wifi - there is no separate process.
You are right some instructions/advice sheets would be helpful so we will create some gtting started Top Tips in the very near future
Information on LRWeb
http://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/libraryservices/pcsandsoftware/luton-library-laptops-for-loan
May I point out this is a free service so its not laptops for hire its laptops for loan
Please remember laptops are are portable so you could either carry the laptop to the customer service desk on level 1 or ask the member of staff to come with you to where you are working to reduce the amount of walking between floors that you may have to do with a query.

Luton Library - Group Rooms
I would like a whiteboard in the group study rooms because it helps when you are revising as a group to write on a whiteboard
Thank you for your enquiry. I am glad you are making use of our new Bookable Room service
http://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/libraryservices/availableservices/bookings/parksquare
The group study room provision
in Luton Library is a new service that will develop over the next year. I
understand your request for a white board but at the moment space and
costs would prohibit adding this to our offer at this time. Your request is noted
and will be considered as we review our service offer in the new year when we will assess costs and evaluate

Luton Library study environment
The spaces should be divided into social work & study, silent ie to avoid general social chatting which is disturbing, in spaces of study ie monitor level of noise
Many thanks for your Tell Us comment about the new library. Noise levels are very subjective
and to avoid individual “interpretations” leading to conflict the general
library spaces have furniture configurations which indicate style of study.
Levels 4, 5 and 6 have Silent
Study rooms which are monitored – electronically and by staff patrols. If the
study environment isn’t respected there sanctions are in place
Levels 1,2 & 3 are generally
regarded as more group & social style study environments with furniture
configurations to facilitate that
Students are getting used to this
wonderful space and learning styles will mean that students will start to gravitate
towards the space that suits their learning style the best.
May I advise that you go up the
building – maybe into the Silent study areas? This may meet your requirements
better than the lower floors.

Guest wifi
I was trying to get the guest WiFi code for some
external people who will be on on Luton campus on Friday. Is this something you
could help me with?
All guest users of the University WiFi can
self register for a code. There is guidance on the University website

Sconul Access
My sconul access has lapsed as I have taken a
break from studies for a year but am still enrolled at the university of
Bedfordshire as a student and would like to continue to access University library through sconul.
Is this possible and if so is there a renewal process or do I need to apply again?
Is this possible and if so is there a renewal process or do I need to apply again?
Your current status on our Student Records system is Deferred which
means that you are not Current.
In the spirit of Sconul Access all applicants have to be current member
of participating institutions. As soon as you re-start (I note that you say taken a break from studies
for a year) you can apply
All the information you need about Sconul Access is on LRWeb
Once you’ve read the information complete your online application and
continue the process with Sheffield Halam

I
would like to renew my membership. Would you advise me to apply for a new
membership this week, or would it be best to apply nearer to the expiry date? I cannot
afford any interruption in my study, so it would be ideal for me not to wait
for a week or more for my new ID card, past the expiration date.
Also
i have an issue with my existing ID card when upon using the new Learning
Resources building facilities. For example, I have a problem in swiping my card
when i use the front entrance automatic swivel doors. The scanner does not
recognise my card, therefore the doors do not automatically allow me access. I
had to call security on more than one occasion to allow me in, but
generally, most of the time, they do seem to allow me access to the premises
without me using my ID card.
Another
issue I have discovered is that I cannot use the silent study rooms, again the
scanner does not recognise my existing card to allow me access to the rooms. Is
there a problem with my ID card? Or does it need to be replaced with a new ID
card?
Finally
if you can remind me, what form of identification, alongside with the application
form and a photo passport size, is needed to successfully process my
application.
I would advise you to apply as soon as you can. We have a new card for
external customers which should allow them to swipe into the Luton Library
revolving doors so it should make access a lot easier
You do not have to swipe to enter the silent rooms on levels 4, 5 &
6
If you mean the group study rooms (they’re smaller) on level 2, 4 &
5 external customers do not have access to these rooms.
All the information about making an application for External Customer membership
is on our website
Proof of ID and address usually can be covered by a headed letter from a
utility bank or other formally headed letter. ID can be driving licence or any
other photo ID eg work or Uni ID

I am currently on the BEDSCITT teacher training course which
has the University of Hertfordshire as its lead university. As I am based in
Bedford though, it makes it difficult for me to travel to Hertfordshire to use
their library, so I was just wondering whether or not I am able to use the on
Polhill Avenue or whether that is just for Bedfordshire University students
only?
Many thanks for your enquiry. I regret to inform you that there is no
free SCITTS access to University of Bedfordshire’s learning Resources. If you
wanted to pay for membership details are here
Thanks
Printing photos
I would like to print some photos I've take for a project.
Is there a printer and paper that could afford it ?
Thank you for your enquiry
The printers in Learning Resources print in colour or black and white on
standard paper. If you want this level of finish of course the printers are
available for you to use.

Luton Library - study enviroment
Just a quick
query. I just want to know if I able to use the group study spaces if they are
available and I am not
part of a group?
I feel there are not many large desks in the silent areas only the narrow computer spaces. It's great that there are so many large desks outside the silent areas but I really need the quite to concentrate and the group areas seem to be unoccupied in the evenings. I personally can't work so close to the computer screen and there isn't much space to spread out. It's going to be a nightmare when deadline season approaches and were doing all-nighters. Where am I supposed to put my books and snacks?

Many thanks for your enquiry
The group configurations of furniture in the open library spaces is open
for any use on a first come first served basis. If there was pressure on space then individuals may be asked to move from group space. . It would be reviewed on a cases by case basis if
required.
The bookable group rooms however are for groups of a minimum of 4 people
May I ask which floor you are working on? We have two types of PC
provision – high density where students will be sitting very close together.
This is mainly available on level 1,2, and 3 although it is available on all
floors. Standard PC provision with space either side of the PC is available
from level 4, 5 and 6. Its sounds to me that this might suit you better rather
than sit uncomfortably in the group sofa arrangements. There is some pair
working work station which will offer more space too. Please wander around the
library to find the different options available to you.
The silent room provision should be part of our standard offer (ie with
space either side of the PC) and this is specifically to discourage chatting or
any noise at all.
http://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/libraryservices/availableservices/study-env
Please remember is it is good study practice to take a break to have
your snacks and I would suggest that you go to the ground floor and eat there.
There is proper disposal facilities there and a bit of movement may help you
rest your eyes from the screen and let your body move a little bit. If you have
to eat at your desk please remember hot or messy food is not allowed anytwhere
in the library except the cafe
Staff are happy to take you on a tour at any time. Please ask at the
Customer Service desk on level 1.

I am writing a paper about gamification of the primary curriculum
and have had several books recommended to me which are not on the library
catalogue (listed below). Are you able to order them for me please?
Thank you for your enquiry.
May I ask where did you get your list publications? Were they on a
reading list?
Reviewing your request: The 2007 (and 2003 edition) edition of one title is available at both
Luton Library and Bedford library. Do you know specifically what’s in the 2008
edition that you need - as it might be an idea to start with the 2007 edition
Luton Library has print copies of Game Developer 2003 –
2013. As your article is quite old do you really need that particular information?
In the link to Miles Berry’s blog there is a link to his publications
page is these anything on that list which would help you?
May I suggest that you drop in to the Study Hub next time you are on
