Bedford Silent Study

I feel the ban has been implemented with such short notice. With a few months left and dissertations due I feel like this has caused more stress and anxiety. Though only touching a friends shoulder I was warned. It's a bit too much.

Thank you for raising your concerns with me. In 2014- 15 a Silent Study floor was build in response to student requests. This has been a welcomed and appreciated addition to the study environment at Bedford. This is not a "short notice" change but a long term service offer.

Human nature being what it is the silent requirement on this floor is reinforced with electronic monitoring and staff patrols. If staff find anyone making a noise they get a verbal warning the first time. If it happens again Learning Resources' 3 strike sanctions come into place. These are measures to promote the university's RESPECT values, they can be a precursor to the University's formal disciplinary process but fortunately it doesn't usually go that far.

Bedford has a well appointed group study area and I would advise you to use this space if you want to talk.
