Document Supply - Postgraduate requests

I am trying to obtain a copy of an article: Speech Theory .. Is this something you are able to obtain for me? I am a student on the CIPD PGCert Psychology of Organisational development and Change. Thank you in advance for checking.

Thank you for your enquiry. As a postgraduate you are entitled to 20 free document supply requests.

Learning Resources' Document Supply Service provides resources which are neither in stock nor held electronically at any of the University of Bedfordshire's LRCs or library. The service deals with requests for items which can be obtained from other libraries, including the British Library.

The University of Bedfordshire is one of the 40% of Universities nationally that offer free Document Supply services to our students and staff.

If you can read through the Document Supply Guide pages on LRWeb this should give you an understanding of the service as you don't seem to have used the service before.
If you then place your request using the on-line request form

You then need to instal File Open on the the laptop/PC you use the most. Please read the SED (Secure Electronic Delivery) Hints and Tips. The convenience of having articles delivered directly to your email account needs a few user actions to make the most of it

Most importantly: An electronic link will be sent to your University email  account . Clicking on the link will download and allow you to print the article. Due to copyright reasons, the link can only be viewed and opened once. You are advised to to print out the article. The electronic link to the SED will expire after 14 days whether you have opened it or not.

Praise for Staff

I wasn't sure where to put this one as there wasn't a category for staff praise:

Thank you for your support for the past 3 years your staff are always so helpful and supportive

I  want to thank you for the kind words you said about Learning Resources.  Your thoughts are important to us, but we're especially pleased when the feedback is positive.

We try hard to provide the best possible service to our customers and their satisfaction is our reward.  We are honoured to have been part of your journey with the University of Bedfordshire

We really appreciate you taking the time to let us know we're doing something right.  Good luck in whatever you do next.

Fines

From Twitter:
Trying to do my assignment but yet again discover is down. Tried computers and laptops. uoblibrary sort it out

I have seen your Tweet reporting DISCOVER as down. I understand your frustration but DISCOVER wasn't down. Your library account is blocked because you have £24.50 owing in fines. You need to pay some or all of your fines to release your account.

I would advise you to regularly check your library account wherever you have internet access
Go to the library catalogue

log on with your usual University username and password. You will be able to renew books, see if you have any reservations waiting to be collected and if you have any fines owing.

Luton temperature in F203

Its very cold in F203

Thank you for raising your concerns with me. A member of staff checked the temperature in room F203 while you were there. She reported a reading of 21 degrees centigrade. This temperature is recognised as being in the comfortable zone (19 - 23 degrees centigrade) recommended for office work. The University would not look to increase the temperature in this room. I understand that the rest of level 2 was 23 degrees centigrade and you were advised to work there instead. Additional heaters or increasing the temperature settings for the floor is not possible when the temperature recorded is within the recommended range. I would strongly advise you to move to a different area on that floor

Study Environment Temperature

Due to harsh winter weather, it gets cold in the library, although central heating is available but sometimes they stop working in small silence areas. This affect study whereby some students would leave the library.

Temperatures in the study space in every LRC/library are monitored. If you find an area uncomfortably cold (or hot) please let Reader Services' staff - at the Customer Service desk - know so they can raise the problem with the University's Facilities team.

Technical Support

'Who are the technical team?' 'How can I run to them for help?' 'Are they ready to help?' These are some of the questions students using library regularly do ask.

Who are the technical team? Reader Services staff at the Customer Service desk in all the LRCs in every Campus offer first line technical support. Staff hours are available here:

http://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/opening

If  Reader Services staff cannot help there is another level of support available by referral only. You cannot request to see these staff directly as their time is very limited. Reader Services staff will refer when appropriate. There Computer Skills training sessions available which may be helpful in short cutting any technical queries

Hardware support is not available

Bedford more PCs on the Silent floor

Please can you put more computers on teh second floor silent study area? Thank You

Thank you for your enquiry. As you know level 2 at Bedford Campus Library has become a
silent study area. PC use creates noise so it was a conscious decision to move some of the PCs from level 2 to different floors. There are 22 PCs on that floor but there another 150 PCs on the other library floors. In addition there are 42 PCs in the Learning Hub. You are welcome to use your own laptop or tablet in the Library there are specific plug in power points available on every floor. If you cannot find any please ask staff on the Customer Service Desk (ground floor) for help. You cannot plug your device into the the University network so please use WiFi if required

There are a good proportion of PCs to students at Bedford. We rarely have no PCs left for customers to use. Please check all the library floors for available machines. We are hoping to introduce a PC booking service to make it easier for custom
ers to get a machine when they need it most. Please check the banners on LRWeb for news of this development in the next few weeks.

Referencing

I recently saw on BBC News (on 12th December 2013) about literacy standards .... I would like to reference this and was wondering a) is BBC an 'unreliable'/inappropriate source to use as evidence? and b) if not, how do you reference it???? I have had a look on the referencing section online and it mentions how to reference a film and a television program and neither are suitable I feel. Please can you help me and even provide an example layout of how to do that kind of television?

I am referring your query to your Academic Liaison Librarians who are best placed to advise you on this matter. You will have met them at your induction and throughout the course of your degree.

Printing, proof of purchase

The University should allow students to print or some sort of proof of purchase for printing costs so that students with disabilities can claim back costs through DSA allowance.

Thank you for your enquiry. I am so sorry that you had trouble getting a print log processed over the Christmas break. 24.12.13 - 1.1.14 inclusive the LRC is staffed by security. May I ask did you visit during that time?

The proof of purchase for printing costs is called a Print Log. You would have been told about this by the Health and Well Being team. You may request a print log of any printing done by yourself at University to claim against your DSA allowance at any time that the LRC is staffed by Learning Resources staff. You need to make the request in person (at the Customer Service desk) or in writing to Learning Resources. If you requested this between 24.12.13 - 1.1.14 inclusive security would not have been able to help you.
If you e-mail
and request a print log you should get one within 36 (staffed) hours.

Our staffed hours are slightly different until 6.1.14 so I would advise you to check here
