IEEE

I am student of university of Bedfordshire, Luton
I have my university user ID and Password but I could't access the account. can u please resolve my problem as soon as possible.

I am sorry that you seem to have had a problem with IEEE. I have tested access this morning and it seems to be working and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with your library account.
May I check your route into IEEE with you?
Start with the library catalogue
Under Ejournal Collections drop down menu click on IEEE

Under browse institutions click on "U"
Scroll down to University of Bedfordshire click on that link

Log in with your library account details in the normal way

SPSS

I was just wondering how long it usually takes for a copy of the IMB SPSS statistical software to be burnt onto a blank disk please?

Thank you for your enquiry. The current version of SPSS (19) is a very large file and we do not recommend burning to a disk. Advice on LRWeb tells you how to download the software directly to your own laptop or desktop PC.

Please read through the instructions here:
and have a go.

If you do get stuck please ring for advice during staffed hours

Digital Resources

i am trying to read the electronic version of MMR and autism [electronic resource] : what parents need to know / Michael Fitzpatrick. but when i open the green tab 'read rental online' it opens but there is no writing at all. is this how the electronic book is or is this a problem with the book itself.

I would always advise that you look for electronic resources via the library catalogue

or the University's search application DISCOVER

Type the title of the resource in the search box click return
This will take you to a page with the title of the resource click on this then log in with your Library account log on
At the next page you will need to select how many days you require the download for - from a drop down menu
You need to have an up to date version of Adobe Reader (the page offers a link for you to do this if necessary)
Click on the down load button - it takes a few seconds to load and there you have it.

Please try this route and if you have any problems please ring (during staffed opening hours)
01234 793189
for phone support

I have tried to answer your question as thoroughly as possible. If you need me to expand further or if I have missed anything out please get back to me.

Remote access to Journals

I need access to the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy - please help

We are unable to provide you with electronic access to the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy due to the publisher's terms and conditions.

We do take it electronically and you should be able to access it as a "walk in user" if you came to any of our Campuses.

You can use SCONUL ACCESS and you may be able to access a print version of the journal. Apply to Sconul Access  using the on-line form:
http://www.sconul.ac.uk/sconul-access
Then check SUNCAT
to check availability of the journal in print.  Follow the link then enter the name of the journal you want  in the search box. The search results list the Universites which stock the journal.  Having done this if there is a University close to where you live ring them just to double check they have the title in print for the timeframe you want and you'll be able to access.

It also looks as though the British Library has the journal at St Pancras
Click on the catalogue link from this page and search for the title.  It will then give you various options and advice about getting a readers pass.

Butterfield Students

I think Park Square campus is a more convenient place to study because it has a bigger IT Suite and easy access of food. I thought Butterfield Campus was used for using the simulation room and we hardly use it.

Any University of Bedfordshire student can use any or all of the campuses of the University. Park Square Luton might be convenient for the reasons you state but it also benefits from 24/7 opening (including Bank Holidays!!). Remember your ID card for swiping in and out and you can use the Luton Campus LRC as you need. You can also choose to collect your reservations from Park Square, Luton if you prefer.

Thesis

Is there a list or a database for the PhD theses submitted by our University students that I can have access to?
The University repository stores all the University's digitised doctorate theses. You can access it here

If you are looking for a specific thesis that doesn't seem to be in the repository check in the Library Catalogue using the Advanced search tab. In "Material Type" pull down the drop down menu and select "DISSERTATION". Some of the older PhDs have not been digitised yet

I have tried to answer your question as thoroughly as possible. If you need me to expand further or if I have missed anything out please get back to me.

Lost books

i have two books overdue in the library and i got a letter saying that my account had been suspended until i pay a fee of £40. i have had the books for quite a while now and am a little concerned that i might have to pay more money. could you tell me if this is true please? i would like to know where it is i'm meant to pay this money so i can get my library account activated again.

Your library record shows that you have had 2 items on loan for over a year.

Both items were issued 21.3.12 due back 4.4.12 you were sent 3 overdue notices - last one 11.5.12

You have been billed to replace these items - £40 - and your accounts will be blocked until you either return the books or you pay for their replacement.

If you cannot find the books at all please go to the Customer Service desk in the library to pay for the lost items and your accounts will be unblocked. If you can find them take them back and you will have a fine of £1 to pay and your accounts will be unblocked

I am a retired scholar, after many years of being a senior lecturer ..... Despite being formally retired, I continue to research and an eventual lecturer of post graduate courses ......
I will be living four more months in England.

The research, I am working in this moment, is related to the role of religion in the best hundred universities of the world, according to QS 2012 Ranking. I am in the last stage of this work. For this reason
I need to check some data into the post graduate research sources that you have at your library.
I would appreciate, greatly, to have from you formal permission to consult these sources as an eventual customer in the conditions you estimate proper.

The University of Bedfordshire's primary focus is its own students and staff. That said we are happy to welcome visitors in a limited capacity. The level of service available depends on an individual's circumstances.

Your email does not specify your current status is so I am going to have to make some assumptions.
I assume that your research is for personal development and not specifically affiliated to a nominated course of study. If that is incorrect please let me know what your research is for and which university you are studying in and I will explain the options available to you.

If you are not a member of staff or a researcher at a specific University at the moment you may subscribe for reference access to our resources. The annual charge is £25 - if you can prove that you are entitled to a concessionary rate the annual charge would be £10. There is no loan facility associated with this level of membership. Please note no external customers are allowed remote access to our electronic resources and only very limited access to electronic resources on campus (via personal laptops or our kiosk PCs - there are two on Campus in Luton).

Walk in access ie on campus access, to electronic resources is outlined here

If you do want to borrow print items the annual subscription charge is £60. If you can prove that you are eligible to a concessionary rate the charge is £30. This subscription allows you to use the LRC as a study base and borrow up to 4 items at a time. You would also be entitled to 2 University of Bedfordshire reservations (at a time) should you need it. As stated above no external customers are allowed remote access to our electronic resources and only very limited access to electronic resources on campus (via personal laptops or our kiosk PCs - there are two of these on Campus in Luton).

Our website has a number of pages of advice for people interested in applying to be external customers of the University of Bedfordshire. I would advise you to read them.

Finding your way around the LRC

I am looking for books in the LRC for my upcoming assingments using the LRC Catalogue website. Howver, I am confused as the code number is given on the website but not what floor the book/s is located.
For example, 302 HOF (Cultures and organizations : software of the mind : intercultural cooperation and its importance for survival / Geert Hofstede, Gert Jan Hofstede and Michael Minkov)
Please could you advise me on how I can work out what floor a book is located on, as I cannot find this code on the second floor of the LRC

I am sorry you are having trouble finding your way around the LRC. There are guidance signs all over the LRC. If you don't find these helpful please ask the staff on the Customer Service desk to help you. They will be pleased to take you to the correct area.

Items with the Dewey number 302 are on level 3 of the Luton LRC.
