Bedford iMovie

iMovie is not the latest version - therefore projects created on newer versions are not comfortable with the macs on the third floor.

Will get Macs on 3rd Floor of Bedford updated to Catalina, and notify you when this has been done.

Luton - bookable rooms

Could we have loric software in the library computers pls for we need to book the rooms to catch up during weekends and after lectures during the week.

Thank you for your email. You will need to send me more details about the software you require as it isn't a standard item on our student PCs and I may not be able to help.
There are group study rooms on levels 4, 5 & 6 of Luton Library which you can book online. I addition there are two presentation rooms on level 2 which you can also book online. Deatils are here
https://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/libraryservices/using-the-library/parksquare/

The teaching rooms on level 1 are available between staff bookings on a drop in basis during library staffed hours. Staffed hours are detailed here:

Students may not book teaching rooms

Luton Library - Cleaning

Cleaning- I have noticed on the weekend the library toilets do not get cleaned and are really in an atrocious manner. Please can we have cleaners more regularly, I checked their cleaning log for one of the floors and they only check it once a day on the weekend. Even I noticed today they were not cleaned from the weekend. For the beginning of the week, this is really not acceptable. It is a 24 hour library after all.

Furthermore, whilst all the bins get emptied, their surround is not being cleaned and is sticky (I have seen a few like this for the past couple weeks).

Also I do not know why it is that when I arrive in the morning, I always have to wipe my work space down because they have been missed. This has been happening frequently. Are the cleaners wiping the tables down?

Whilst I appreciate it is a big library, it would be appreciated if cleanliness could be more of a priority, considering many of us spend long hours in the library and do not want to sit in an uncleaned one.

Thank you for your comments. Maintaining the library environment is a partnership between all the stakeholders staff, students, external customers as well as Facilities. I will share your comments with the Facilities team but via the blog this message needs to be heard by the whole Library community too. We all play a role in keeping the library clean and tidy.

Bedford Library - ground floor PC

Used the computers downstairs and print queue wouldn't show on release. Library staff tried their best, however, unable to solve so will investigate

Thank you for letting us know your concerns. I do apologise for the inconvenience it caused you. The PCs are being checked so it won't happen again

Library PCs - saving work

I have found it really difficult to work out how to save my work on the computers.  It has caused me a lot of anxiety and wasted time.   It is not obvious how to use one drive - I am used to saving to folders.  It is extra stress when I just want to get on with my work. There don't seem to be any clear instructions?  Library staff helped me but it has caused me so much stress!

I am sorry you have found the transition to Cloud storage stressful The University is ensuring that each student has adequate storage for their study needs hence the change. One Drive is very straight forward to use once you get into the habit of logging in. There are a couple of videos you may find helpful

Social Work Resources

I'm a Social Work student and I've found that for all my unit there about 8 or so copies of the core text book in the library including some 'library only' copies. The only exception to this as the book ' the skilled helper' by Gerard Egan, of which there are only 2 copies displayed in the library catalogue and no library only copies. There is an electronic version, but I doubt I'm the only person on my course who dislikes reading off a screen. Some more copies of this text or a couple of library only copies would be greatly appreciated if possible.

Thank you for your comments. Your Academic Liaison Librarian has been in discussion with your academics and

  • additional copies are currently on order
  • looking into alternative titles to help ease the pressure on a few titles
There was an announcement on BREO last week (17.10.19) with this information.

You should be seeing these changes soon
