I cannot log onto discover to access journal articles also I have not been issued an athens log in. Requiring access for tomorrow morning. Many Thanks
Athens is an authentication system that allows you to access the electronic resources your library subscribes to from anywhere in the world. You may have had an Athens username and password at a previous institution to access the resources that library subscribed to. Here at the University of Bedfordshire we use an alternative authentication system, the UK Access Management Federation, which has superseded Athens in the Higher Education community. You might still come across Athens when talking to colleagues in other sectors such as the NHS or other universities; this is because they have chosen to use Athens as their authentication system. The main thing to remember is that Athens is not a collection of resources; it’s just an alternative route to accessing the resource the University of Bedfordshire subscribes to.

We seem to be having some issues with UK Access Management authenticated resources (this particularly affects ebooks). However the problem is patchy, it seems to be allowing you to log in correctly the second time, so please keep trying while we investigate.
If you need a HEI Athens account (NHS resources only) please be patient we are waiting for administration rights to process the applications

Photocopier paper
Suggestion: Please could you load one photocopier with yellow/blue paper for the use of students who are dyslexic. It would really improve reading copied materials
Thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately I cannot take your suggestion on board as there isn't capacity to dedicate one machine to coloured paper for both colour and black and white printing. Learning Resources has been advised that not everyone who would like coloured paper agrees on which colour suits them the best.
None the less Learning Resources has always offered coloured paper as an alternative to the standard white paper for anyone who requires it please just ask at the Customer Service Desk. When you are ready to print/photocopy staff will load a printer (colour or black and white) for your use.

Welcome 2015 - Bedford Library
Extremely helpful during Induction Day - After groups split up during admin bit. Kept us students
calm and informed, made a great suggestion to keep it together. Made a huge difference to me
and others
1.10.15 - Really helpful and knowledgeable when I collected reserved books. I didn't have a
clue and Adriano supported and guided me through the process. He is invaluable

Luton - study environment
I am a new student in Beds and I have found the library more
energetic that what I preceive a university library should be. I have tried to
work in the silent areas these few days and I see students talking to each
other in normal volume and other users talking on phones and having sandwich.
Just now, I heard baby crying when I was reading near the International Office.
Unfortunately, it is not the kind of quiet environment I
believe a university library would promise. There are social learning
spaces users should go to if that feel like chitchating/ doing group projects.
Moreover, phone calls should never be allowed inside the libarary. I strongly
suggest that the employees in library should patrol more around and tap on the
shoulders of those who have a different interpretation on how library should be
used. besides, there should be a solid wall between the library and the
International Office.
Thank you for taking the time to let me know your concerns. Learning Resources provides a variety of learning environments in the Luton LRC. There are two Silent floors - levels 2 & 3. If there is any talking on these floors staff patrols or reporting the problem to the customer service desk should remedy this.
Elsewhere in the library conversations are permitted as group learning is on the syllabus for every course of study at the University.

If you heard a baby crying the infant would probably have been with its parents in the International office as it is against University regulations for under 18s to be in the Luton LRC.
I am afraid that building modifications are not possible to help sound proof the current Luton LRC. May 2016 we will be relocating to the brand new library which will have silent rooms on a number of floors and will not have the shared space issues you describe in your email. In the meantime I would advise you to study on level 2 or 3. if you need help finding these floors please ask staff at the Customer Service desk on level 1 who will be only too happy to help.
