Visitor access

 You said

I am a medical graduate currently preparing for my medicine exams ,and I am rotating at Bedford Hospital.

Can you please suggest if it would be possible for me to use the library for study purposes. I would not require library books or in house PC’s , just need a study space.

We said

Thank you for your enquiry. Due to the current restrictions University of Bedfordshire is reducing the number of visitors allowed into the library. I am sorry but you may not apply for visitor membership at this time.

Sconul Access

 You said:

I am writing again to you in regards to the university visitors membership enquiry. Has there been any change in allowing visitors to the library? Or can you give me some indication when the university will allow visitors back to the library.

Further, can I ask if I have SCONUL Access can I use the library.

We said:

Thank you for your enquiry. The advice was to monitor our library pages where you will have seen that University of Bedfordshire has re-joined the Sconul Access scheme

Please ask your home institution if they have re-joined the scheme and if you are eligible to  apply. If you are follow their advice and join the scheme.

When you get your email of authorisation follow the instructions on our website

I wish to reserve a book but don’t seem to be able to do this online from my BREO.

The book I wish to reserve is Deveiance and Medicalization:from badness to sickness, by Peter Conrad, ISBN: 0877229996.

Can you let me know if im able to reserve this and collect Monday is possible?

 We said:

Thank you for your email. Reserving a library book is self service from the library catalogue

 Details are here: https://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/libraryservices/using-the-library/loans-renewals-and-reservations/reserve/

This is a self service facility available on the library catalogue and via Discover. You can reserve up to 6 items at any one time and they can be collected from any campus library. Items will be delivered to the campus you specify when placing the reservation. External Associate members may reserve up to 2 items. Our campuses are up to 40 miles apart so please allow several days for an inter-campus reservation to reach the selected campus via our courier service. You will need your password to place a reservation. You may view your user record to see how your reservation is progressing. The message: "Ready for pick up" indicates that you may collect it from the specified location.

I will say – on checking the catalogue that the item you want is available digitally.  Go to

Library.beds.ac.uk

Type the title of your item in the search bar (click on Title) and it will take you to this link

Learning Materials

 You said:

Can you teach me how to use the resources effectively? How can we start?

We said:

Thank you for your email. May I ask did you miss your library induction in the first few weeks of the academic year? A lot of the basics of how to use the library and finding resources is covered in this session. Whether you did or didn’t it doesn’t matter there’s a couple of things I can suggest:

 1)      Make an appointment with your Subject librarian for specific help with Business learning materials

https://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/studyhub-library/what-is-study-hub/study-hub-teams/alls/claire-carter

2)      This online guide may help you
https://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/business-studies/

3)      When you are next on campus visit the library and ask for help at the Customer service desk (Luton Campus Library level 1) they will help you search the catalogue for subject specific books and give you some advice on how to find things in the library

If not, it's not a problem as I am happy to purchase a copy myself, but we have recently been made aware that if we are unable to find a resource in the library catalogue that we can ask.

Visitor membership

I have been checking the LRC website since May 2021 and have been informed that the LRC is not open to visitors. Upon speaking to the staff at the LRC I was informed that they are not aware when the LRC will be open to visitors and that I should check the website. I have been checking the website for 6 months and no new update has been published.

I am a very hard working and studious person suffering from family problems hence am not able to study at home.

My father passed away last year and I am working two jobs and studying to become a doctor. My studies have been greatly affected because I cannot study in peace at the library and there is a lot of disturbance at home.

Please kindly review my request and please allow me access to use the LRC. Myu exams have started and I wish to gain access to library again.

I have been vaccinated and am fully fit.

I will be grateful for your consideration.

 I wait for your reply.

Visitor membership

I am an A level student wondering if I might be allowed to use your library to study.

It would only be on Saturdays and Sundays, and I am only enquiring because the Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire libraries I would normally use do not allow people to sit in and study.  Furthermore, the Bedford libraries do not open on Sundays and I would like a place to go and work that is away from my household.

Visitor membership

 You said

I'm a postgraduate student but studying at Anglia Ruskin University London campus. However I live in a Luton and learn via online lectures. I'm looking to study at a library in the evenings or on a Sunday (mainly as I have children I need a quiet work area) and I was wondering if I was able to use Luton University library please?

All the public libraries in the area close early or aren't open on a Sunday, so thought worth a chance asking the question to see if there was a chance you could help me please?

Bedford Library opening hours

 You said:

Hi, I have some feedback about the Bedford Library and it's opening hours. I was just wondering if there were plans to extend the opening hours to be opened earlier than 830. As a 'mature' learner with children the library opening till later is great, but actually would make more sense if I could get into the library before 830am. The library seems to be the place that I am the most productive, and so I'm keen to get to the library before my lectures start to get a couple of hours worth of work in! I've spoken to a few of my peers who also think it would be beneficial if the library opened earlier. I'm aware that Luton are, or are moving to, a 24 hour service and just curious as to why this isn't an option for the Bedford campus. Many thanks

Thank you for your email. During the last academic year the library has been open on very restricted opening hours. Moving out of the pandemic it has given the University to review the opening hours offer and run a pilot year of opening to see if this fits the student needs.
