Bedford PCs - software

Plan on library computers but need ActivInspire software to create slides for lessons. Need authorisation to enable download.

I have checked with your department and we're not sure what you mean.
Do you mean SMARTBOARD?  You do need a code/key to download this software at home. This is on Bedford Library's PCs

Luton Library PCs

In recent months the computers in the library have gotten worse and worse. Broken mice, keyboards and constant issues logging onto the pcs.
Considering this is your major selling point of the university you would think more attention would be paid to the maintenance of the equipment and also closer observation of the continued disgusting and childish behaviour that goes in the library (for example students pulling the buttons off the mice devices, and spilling food and drink all over the keyboards causing them to not work).
Considering the fees we have to pay this should be better.

Thank you for your feedback. As soon as staff are aware of a problem every effort is made to rectify it. Please advise on where the damaged PCs are and I will look into it.

Luton Library - study environment

After complaining about loud people playing music through a speaker, the librarian/receptionist told me that it's okay, because I wasn't in a silent room.

Thank you for your comments Please can you let me know the date and time you reported this? The library code of conduct states personal stereos must be switched off. I need to follow this uyp for staff training purposes https://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/libraryservices/using-the-library/Code-of-conduct

Bedford Printing Problems

Word document - Pages 19 and after 3 pages stops. (Printer states sating prohibited)  stops print and then have to complete.  print again, then fine so every time I print I am wasting print credit which I am now very annoyed

Please could you let me know - when you say you print again do you print the entire document or just the missing pages?

May I reassure you that after you reported your problem to library staff they investigated and escalated to our Reprographics team. They are pursuing this issue, they have reported so far:

It is very difficult to diagnose. It would be helpful to send Reprographics a copy of the affected file when the problem happens to help them test the problem. You may do this via the library team during staffed hours
https://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/opening/ph

Reprographics have flagged this to our system provider for an urgent response so we understand what the error messages mean why it happens and how we can implement a fix. Reprographics have also requested a time frame to fix the issue and asked what additional info they require to investigate.

Bedford - PC software upgrade

could I suggest you remove that bar that comes down at the top of the PC screen?

Me and some fellow students have found it quite irritating as it come down when trying to change tab for instance.

Thank you very much

Thank you for raising your concerns. I know that you have been contacted by the Library's technical support about this too. All the library's PCs have a My PC facility which "disappears" into the top tool bar on the screen after you click on it to start your session until you click on it to log out. During your PC session if you inadvertently click on the top tool bar it will re-appear. This problem has been corrected in the current version of the MyPC software but not all the PCs at Bedford have had the upgrade. If this problem happens again please make a note of where the PC is (as accurately as possible) and let staff know so it can be corrected. This has to be done on a machine by machine process.

Bedford Rolling Stacks

The rolling stacks are broken again and it's generally hindering lit students as I've travelled from Luton to get books only to find they're completely inaccessible.  PLEASE fix!  Lit students are suffering

Thank you for raising your concerns. The fault has been reported and is being dealt with. We are hopeful for a quick resolution. The rolling stack is proving rather difficult to fix as there is an electrical fault and its tricky to locate. We are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
In the mean time please reserve any materials stored in the rolling stack and they will be picked for you and available for collection by the next day (at the latest) if you are at Luton the books may be delivered to Luton. Select "Luton" from the drop down list on the online reservation form.
STOP PRESS: rolling stack has now been fixed
