Luton Library - Furniture

The little triangle table with computers in the silent areas are are too small to work on. There is no space to write or put a book. Need bigger table

Thank you for your feedback. There are silent rooms on the 4th, 5th and 6th floors of Luton Campus Library. As well as the triangular tables you mention there are standard tables - some with PCs - also available in some of the rooms. These tables offer space for books and additional portable devices. I would advise you to check the facilities on each of these floors to find the one that suits you the best.

Luton - children in the library

I am very disappointed that I cannot bring my child into the library during the school holidays.

Thank you for your email  University regulations state that under 18s are not allowed into the library. When you registered with the University you agreed to abide by this regulation but understandably may have forgotten this requirement until now.

This regulation is ameliorated with the offer from the library to collect and issue books on behalf of parents who have chosen to bring their children into University – while they wait on the ground floor or on the level 1 bridge link to the Campus Centre at Luton. Any parent may use the IT on the ground floor of Luton Campus Library – near the cafĂ© outside the entry barriers -  to access a PC and print while looking after their child. No children may be left unattended in this area and security and library may not take care of customers’ children.

Luton Library - PCs in the silent rooms

Remove computers from silent study room keyboard very loud and distracting when reading

Thank you for your comments in the run up to the main dissertation hand ins and exam period in the University I feel removal of PCs from the silent area it will generate far more complaints than approval. W e will evaluate making on of the silent areas PC less but will not be able to legislate against laptop use.  We will investigate the purchase of quieter keyboards.

Bedford- Rolling Stack

I've noticed that the rolling stack on the 1st floor keeps breaking down.  This is very inconvenient, especially for final year students.

The rolling stack on the first floor at Bedford is out of order. Items from the rolling stack may be reserved at the Customer Service desk on the ground floor. Items are being retrieved once a day then placed as reservations for students to collect from the ground floor. We apologise for this inconvenience while the rolling stack is being mended.

Borrowing a reference item

I am really unhappy I have an open book exam for my degree that I am paying £9,500 to acquire. I attempted to take out one of 2 ref book but staff wouldn't allow me. I literally only need it for an hour. Staff really not helpful I have a exam needed a book for literally an hour. You have 2 referencing book I only wanted 1 of them for an hour. Thanks for nothing. Disappointed.

Thank you for raising your concerns. I understand your frustration but you will have been told about your open book exam at the start of your unit so preparation for the exam would start then. Knowing you had the exam and leaving it until the last minute  to get your required book does not demonstrate good preparation for the exam. Reference copies of library materials are there for high demand titles for large number of students. Loan periods are in the Library's code of conduct. I understand that you could have photocopied relevant pages and/or used your notes from your course in the exam but did not choose to do this.
