Returning library materials

is it possible to return library books at the Milton Keynes campus? I usually collect and return books at the Luton campus but Milton Keynes is closer to me.

Absolutely, yes please go ahead. We try to encourage students to make use of the services where it suits them best so returning books to Milton Keynes is fine

Alumnus Membership

I am an alumni of UOB from 2011 batch.
I wanted to enquire about what I can do to extend my digital library access. I was using it for till now but it just got expired a couple of weeks ago.

Looking forward to your reply.

Many thanks for your enquiry. Congratulations on graduating from the University of Bedfordshire. I see that your student library account expired on 11.4.17 this is why you no longer have access to the digital library.

If you wish to continue using University of Bedfordshire library resources in any capacity you will need to apply for Alumnus access. All Alumnus membership rights are described on our web page

This clearly states
As a graduate of the University of Bedfordshire you are welcome to apply for membership of Learning Resources. This applies to UK based Alumni as or membership offer is based on physical access to the study space and print resources. There is no remote access to digital resources for UK or overseas alumni.

Alumni Reference Membership is Free - no loans
Alumni Associate Membership – which allows borrowing - is £30 per annum
You may use the Guest WiFi network on your own laptop
Or you may use the Guest PC (one in each LRC) on a first come first served basis.
You will not have access to any of your old University IT accounts or to the Digital Library.

Due to licensing restrictions University of Bedfordshire cannot extend access to the digital library remotely.

If you are on Campus as an Alumnus member you will have access to the limited range resources listed here

I hope this helps

I would like to use UoB learning resource centre- Luton campus as a postgraduate student at Middlesex University. I have approved SCONUL access, and will bring a print out along with my University ID.

-What else is required for access to your library
-how many passport sized photo’s are required
-would I be able to access these services on the day that I provide these items?

Thank you for your enquiry all the information you need is on our website
https://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/libraryservices/exusers/free

There is an application form on this webpage which you will need to print and complete
Post it and one passport style photo with your application to the address on the webpage

Milton Keynes Campus Opening Times

I, together with a host of other University of Bedfordshire students use the UCMK campus library facilities as we are now in the process of doing our dissertations and in my case due end of this month. Recently we were advised that the library will only be openning 9am-5pm during week days something we feel is not fair considering that the Luton and Bedford Campuses open until 2am. Surely, I cannot be expected to drive to Luton or Bedford for library facilities when we have our own university campus in our community. By closing the facilities outside business hours and weekends it now appears to defeat the whole idea of having students in Milton Keynes. While it may not be feasible for the library to close at 2am, surely having it open until at least 10pm would benefit students who cannot travel to the bigger facilities elsewhere. I would like to believe students in Milton Keynes are certainly no lesser in value compared to those in Luton of Bedford. My please is for the university to consider our plight and help us by opening the facilities until 10pm and also on Saturdays until 4pm at least.

Thank you for raising your concerns. The opening hours for the summer period have been advertised all year so I am a little surprised to receive this complaint  at this late stage. Regular opening hours are reviewed each year by 30 May prior to the relevant academic year. It is not possible to review Milton Keynes Campus opening hours to make a change with immediate effect this August.

All students are welcome to use the library facilities at Bedford and Luton

Opening Hours

is very unfair that we students that are currently in term are unable to use library facilities or rather it is limited because most people are out of term. It is unfair as we all deserve to be treated the same.

Thank you for sharing your concern. Due to decreased demand there has been a slight reduction in opening hours this summer. After the main teaching year ended opening hours were severely reduced. Students complained and the VC extended opening hours to what they are now. Students were told via email social media and webpage information to ensure the message was available to everyone who needed it.

Saturdays 10.30 - 17.30

Luton Library Lockers

Disappointed that despite mentioning this at least 6 months ago there are STILL no lockers available in the new library As a motorbike rider this would have been very useful!

Thank you for raising your concern. It won't help but there a number of people whether they're motorcyclists or not who are disappointed about the lack of lockers at Luton Library - including staff!
Unfortunately there has been a problem with the installation and so the lockers' availability does not have a due date I am afraid.
Please be assured that staff are doing everything they can to get a swift solution but - as you say- 6 months later there has not been any progress. I can only apologise.
