Referencing a proverb

I just wondered if you would be able to help me with how to reference what I think is a chinese proverb?

The quote is:
I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.

and was said by Confucius. I found the quote in an article, so wasnt sure whether to reference this?

Thanks for your enquiry. You could certainly reference the article if you feel that the content of the article is relevant to your assignment. The article is from ‘The Canadian Journal of Hospital Pharmacy’, guidance on referencing journal articles is available on the library website here, https://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/guides/a-guide-to-referencing/journals .

If you prefer to reference the proverb separately from the article it may be a little bit more time consuming as it would be good to be able to quote from an authoritative source.  If you have the time you could aim to locate the quote in this book on the library catalogue,  http://library.beds.ac.uk/record=b1308594~S20 . You could then reference the quote from the book.

An easier to find but slightly less reliable source would be a website such as this,  http://www.open.edu/openlearn/education/12-famous-confucius-quotes-on-education-and-learning# . It is from the Open University so has some academic authority, but as it is a website it may not be available in the long-term future.

You could also try searching for the quote on DISCOVER (see https://lrweb.beds.ac.uk/ ) and Google Scholar. This may throw up other useful examples of how the proverb has been used in an educational context.

Luton Library - Staplers

Is it possible to have staplers on every floor?

Many thanks for your suggestion. I am afraid that it isn't possible to have staplers on every floor. There are cost implications in buying enough equipment for 9 levels but in addition those staplers would be difficult to maintain as they are away from staffed desks.
May I suggest that you purchase your own stapler for every day use if you find walking to level 1 of the library too inconvenient. You can buy them quite cheaply from local stationers.

I am emailing to enquire about using the library at the university. I am not actually a student at the university but am studying via distance learning.

I need a place to study, usually in the late evening after work but by then the public library is closed. I was wondering if you allow visitors and whether or not I could get a pass made.

Thank you for your enquiry. Details of our External membership offers are on our website

If you read the information and wish to proceed please print off and complete the membership form and submit it with a passport style photo and your remittance

Literature Review

I'm doing a lit review for my midwifery degree and wondered if you could point me in the right direction regarding some journals I need for my assessment.

If possible could you send me some titles of journal research articles regarding early postnatal discharge. Or let me know how I could access anything  to do with research articles that talk about postnatal early discharge.

Many thanks I appreciate any time you could spend on this.

Thank you for your enquiry please take a look at the help and advice on our website for your course

Using the digital library

I am having difficulties in logging in to Wiley Online Library. I go to login via my institution (uni of beds) and it then takes me to a uni of beds page where I put in my student number and password. It then takes me to the Wiley Online Library home page and doesn't say anything about a failed login. However in the top right corner it still says login/register (with a uni of beds logo next to it). And I'm still unable to access any of the articles on Wiley.

I have previously been able to access articles on Wiley so I was wondering if there is a reason that I'm no longer able to login.

Many thanks for your enquiry. I am sorry you are experiencing difficulties may I ask how you are searching for this article? As a University of Bedfordshire student you need to search via the Library catalogue or DISCOVER you do not log in directly to Wiley.

Following the link you provided I note that the article is over 10 years old from the journal and it does not appear to be part of the University of Bedfordshire Wiley “bundle”.

I would advise you as a post graduate student to request this article via the University’s Document Supply Service

An overview of the Document Supply service is found in a suite of pages on our website please read as many as possible but particularly these two:

Adobe Design

I’m a second year sports journalism student currently completing a magazine project on Adobe InDesign. I’ve accessed it from my Macbook using the free trial, but this has run out and I cannot access it from home over the Easter break and do the work.

Is there anyway I can access the version the university uses on my own Macbook in order to complete my work?

There is currently no agreement with Adobe for home use for students.

However, the cheapest option is to take out a monthly  Single App subscription to InDesign. Between £20 and £30 approximately, depending on whether a year's subscription or month to month.

More details at:

Printing

Printing from my own USB stick not allowing me to print the complete document (word) stating "account error" and I have over £40 of printing credit. Not ideal to get work printed. This is a regular occurance

Thank you for sharing your concerns. Please may I check what you are doing to send items for print?
Are you plugging your USB into the desk top plutos (they look like half footballs)?
Are you plugging the usb direct into the printer (there is a usb port)

If there's a yes to either of these questions then this would be why as this function is disabled.

If this is not the case then you need staff assistance to see it happen to assess what is happening. Please ask at the Customer Service desk

Finding books in the new library

From Twitter: How can I find out where my course books are located in the new library?

Journalism books are at 070.4 on level 2 at the Luton Library and your subject guide is here lrweb.beds.ac.uk/Journalism

Luton Library - temperatures

Just to let you know that it is always really cold in the new library. Is there any chance that the temperature can be adjusted. You find that most students have to leave their coats on when in the library especially top floors such 4th and 5th floors.

Thank you for your comment. The building management for Luton Library is set between 19 and 23 degrees centigrade. If the temperature falls between these values then it is "correct" if it falls below 19 degrees then we can report it.

There should be a cardboard thermometer near where you are sitting to measure the temperature. if there isn't please ask staff on the level 1 Customer Service desk to help you read the temperature.
